She is already pot-bellied, I think in the first stages of pregnancy. How can spaying end that?

You would abort the litter, if you are comfortable with that.

If not, she really needs to come inside where you can make sure she is eating properly throughout her pregnancy. Then, you'll need to see that she delivers safely. Leaving her outside is not a safe choice at this point.

Is it true that having a litter at this age could stunt her growth?

Yes. She could also have trouble delivering, a baby could get stuck, etc, because she is so small.

Will you have her spayed after this litter? What about all of the kittens? Will this cycle be allowed to continue?

I'll see if I could return her this Saturday. I don't think I could abort the kittens. And I'm against spaying. I could quarantine her until she's one year old.

I think cats have a vocation to live their lives as fully as we humans do.

So, there are several differences. For one, some humans feel a desire for children. Cats do not. They have hormonal impulses driving them to mate, and actually controlling their lives and making them uncomfortable, but that's not that the same as a desire or a wish. They have no dreams of a future with their children.

They also can't stop. A female cat can have three litters per year. This will deplete all nutrients from the female's body and significantly shorten her life. A delivery gone wrong will kill her. Make cats will fertilize litter after litter after litter. Sexually transmitted diseases are spread. There is inbreeding.

Overpopulation is a HUGE issue, but we are talking about an unhappy life of painful mating and risky deliveries outside. Is that what you want for her? It's not really vocation or a full life at all.

I brought her back but for some reason I think the garden was better for her...

It's not. You can supervise and feed her appropriately and make sure that her labor and delivery go smoothly here. You can also spay her and vaccinate her once her kittens have weaned. She may seem slightly less happy, but you are ultimately giving her a safer and MUCH better life. Seriously, there is no way to quantify how much better off she now is because of you. You've done an amazing thing for her.

@Heidi Bedwani I'm so thrilled that you have her back and can look after her through this. Well done!

I turned her back. It's very difficult with this family of mine. No shelter wants to take her.

Please get her and her kittens spayed and neutered after this litter.  It's the only way to save them from the life discussed above.

To take her back, I ride three minibuses. I don't think a cardboard box is practical. Also, I have used backpacks but she simply would not fit in. The ride is aggravating for her in this heat. She pants a lot and yowls.

If the ride is aggravating, I can't imagine being outside is ok for her. I know this is hard for you, and I know you are trying to do right by your cat.

She really needs to be spayed after this litter, and being inside, no matter the attitude, really is preferable.
