Hi all!

I just got a kitten about 5 days ago, (he's 3 months old now) ofc he wasn't eating on the first day and I got really worried so I fed him canned tuna and that made him go crazy and started up his appetite. I've been feeding him that for the past 5 days but I read that canned tuna can make kittens/cats become addicted and refuse to eat anything else. I also read that canned tuna is bad for everyday feeding, so I'm thinking about switching to a different flavour of the same brand, like chicken or turkey or something. How should I go about this switch? If he's already addicted what do I do? He's still eating his dry food in conjunction with his tuna but this is my first pet EVER so I want to get a good idea before I attempt anything.

Is it canned tuna cat food you are feeding or canned tuna for people? Canned tuna for people is not a complete balanced diet for cats so you do need to get your cat off it and onto cat food soon. Canned tuna for cats is ok for now as long as your cat is eating it. New cats often don't eat for a day or two after being moved toa new home. They're just really stressed out. Try to introuduce meats like chicken and beef. You can add a little of the canned tuna to other canned cat food to entice your cat to try the new food.

Ok thanks! It's canned tuna for cats only. I'll try out some chicken flavour tonight and mix a little tuna into it like you suggested.

Ok Thanks! It was canned tuna made for cats only. I did what you said and mixed a little tuna into canned chicken (for cats of course) and he's been eating it all.

Did that work?  Is he eating a variety now,?

If not, you can always crush some treats and sprinkle them on top of ANY wet food to entice them to eat.  You can use Bonita flakes (which is dried tuna I believe)
