Hi , I have a litter of kittens and their mom. One of my boy kittens got bit my his mom on the head last Saturday. What we thought was a little bite turned to a Abcess. He got bit on the right side. It healed up but last night we notice on the left side of his head by his ear he had a pea size lump. We were cleaning the wound constantly all week because we didn't get paid til today and went to a local vet due to our original vet being out of the office. And the total cost to drain it and everything would have been 252$ our normal vet would have been half of that. We couldn't afford everything so they just gave us the antibiotics. My question is has anyone had a similar situation and the Abcess healed alone with just antibiotics.

Abscesses can heal without full draining, but cleaning them out and draining certainly helps the healing process. The danger is that there is nowhere for the pus to go and the infection goes deeper. Sometimes the abcess will break of its own accord and then you must prevent it closing up by cleaning it out with disinfectant every day while the antibiotics work. It is a difficult decision as to what to do. Is there any chance you can see your regular vet when he returns.
