I am hoping someone could provide some general advice on agreements between partners breeding persian cats. My girlfriend is worried sick that a friend of hers is getting the shaft in her partnership in Florida.

Here is the current situation: Owner X has the female persian, and owner Y supplies the male. As soon as the kittens are born owner Y comes and takes half the litter, and picks out only the best of the best. Owner Y also knows how to sell the kittens and owner X doesn't have this business savvy.

These owners were friends but one seems to be letting the other run over her, and the other seems quite content with the arraingment and unwilling to help her partner in selling. Could anyone share any thoughts on what the standard arraingment is?

As a breeder this is my policy. When I provide a stud service, I either take a stud fee or ask for a kitten in return (whether it's the upcoming litter or a future one). My pick. I only do this for one kitten, not half of the litter. The owner of the female sells the kittens unless we co-own the female and then we split the sales. I do have one clause which is that all of the males out of the litter are to be neutered unless she has my permission to sell a male to a breeder. If that's the case, then we split the money and the contract is my contract. I do co-breed with a very special friend who is on these boards and she can vouch for this. I also breed with my mom and her policy is that I can either keep a kitten or get something at a later breeding. I hope this helps.

Thank you Frannie!

I passed your comment on to my girlfriend and she in turn to her friend. It was a real eye opener for her. She spoke with her 'partner'. They aren't exactly talking with one another these days but I'm sure it will all work out in the end.
