So now rescuecat nr2 has given birth to her 5 little bundles of joy, totalling my amount of kittens to 9 and total amount of feline presences in my house to a whopping 13.

I do have some concerns though. This one gave birth last monday, and costantly leaves her nest. The kittens do gain, are warm and arent screaming.

How long is it ok to be off her nest the first days?

Attached some pictures of her nest. (omg im so keeping one!).

In nature its common momma must leave the nest.  As long evertying is ok, they are gaining, not protesting, warm and happy, its OK and her caretaking good enough, even if perhaps not totally exemplary.

Good you have eyes open and are observing!

Beatiful momma and her children adorable!

Mom is gorgeous! I love calicos! Wow! Healthy looking kittens too!

As StefanZ StefanZ said, as long as the kittens are eating and sleeping well, and not crying much, and growing, mom can leave the nest for an hour or two. She needs breaks!

Thank you for caring for all these cats! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I had a tortie once who would get her kittens well fed and asleep before she left the nest. When I came in the room, she looked back at the huddle of kittens as if to say, "Don't wake up my babies!"

She's a beauty!  I agree..if the kittens are warm, fed and not screaming for attention, Mama is doing her job just fine!  Looks like you may have a little torbie in that litter!  How cool is that?  I'm a sucker for kittens, and tri-colored cats...show me a tri-colored kitten and I fall apart!

Haha same here, these little ones are really beautiful, one takes the cake though, Its the black striped one - ill post a picture when (s)hes not feeding cause its lips and around its eyes (s)hes got white/light red? stripes and looks like a real tiger! such a cool kitten.

But yes, there is a slight chance im ending up with 13cats. they are just all cute and sweet and i want to keep them all!

About the kittens: they gained between 15 and 20 grams all of them today, so im putting my worryshoes away and just enjoying.

All of these kittens make me a bit soft on the inside!

Oh, my goodness!

Remember that they quickly grow up to be full-sized adults, although I support you if you keep them all! I took in a pregnant mama last spring, and kept her and her 4 babies. I now have 5 fully grown cats! But I love all of them, and each of them is different!

The weight gains are terrific! Keep checking though [emoji]128522[/emoji]

This is so true...sometime we have to go for the "best three guesses out of four!" method of deciding!

However, if that little one on the far right really is a torbie, chances are HUGE it's a girl!

Haha, we have been sitting the same way,

Actually all of the striped beauties seem to have red aswell, so im guessing we got 3 girls right there.

Than we have 1 red without white, and 1 red and white.

So we are on the fence about 1 than? seriously i looked under those tails, it looks lovely but i have no clue!

Ill take some under-the-tail pictures soon... or is later better ?

Now AND later would satisfy most of us, I'd say.

We'll take pics when we can get them.

The orange and orange and white kittens are males. They have to have an orange mom AND and an orange dad to be females. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

thats interesting-what if the female is orange and striped? I know the female has to be calico to have calico kits-my honeybee is an unusual orange girl with white belly and paws with tabby patterns on paws and head and splotches of gray inside the orange coloring..not stripes but actual splotches...I always wanted to know what her parents looked like.

All orange cats are tabby pattern. And you don't need a calico mom to have a calico baby. My Sophie is an orange and white cat. That means that her dad was orange and her mom was either orange or a tri-color.
While Sophie's babies are 3 orange and white males and 1 calico girl. Their dad is black and white.
From the pics I would have to guess that the dad is a tabby because of the torbie kitty. If that is the case, then yes, the gingers are boys and the tri-colors are girls.
