I have a foster kitty that I'm struggling with. He's been with our rescue organization since he was born, he was actually born at one of our foster homes. When he was around 2 months old, he had a severe seizure attack. After spending a night at the ER, and numerous trips to the vet, the diagnosis was toxoplasmosis. He recovered, but he had inflammation in one eye that detached his retina and he was left blind in one eye. Shortly after all this, his foster became unexpectedly pregnant and toxo is always a concern for pregnant women, and even more so with a cat that already had a confirmed diagnosis, which is how he came to be with me. He was adopted twice and returned unfortunately, though it was due to no fault of his own. I know he had solid poops when he was with me, and I'm not quite sure when the diarrhea started. When he was returned to me the second time, he had been to the ER for severe diarrhea, His owner also had another special needs cat who had numerous health issues and was having a particularly bad flare up, and that combined with trying to deal with a kitten who was leaking poop all over the house were too much for her to deal with and he was returned to me. He's been back with me since around November 2015 and pretty much has had chronic diarrhea that entire time. He's had blood tests and been tested for Giardia, Coccidia, and Tritrichomonas Foetus and all tests came back negative. He's a wonderful, sweet little guy, is very active, is a good weight and looks very healthy. I've had him on a round of Tylan, and I've been trying him on a couple different limited ingredient foods. He's been on the latest limited ingredient food for about 2 weeks and I've actually seen him have some nice solid poops, but it still goes back and forth. Just earlier tonight, I witnessed him having a perfectly normal bowel movement, then just 1/2 hour later he had diarrhea again, I know he didn't eat anything during that time period. I'm going to continue him on the food he's on since it's the first signs of improvement I've seen. Recently, I've also noticed that he appears to have signs of stomatitis. He's not quite a year old yet, and he seems pretty young to be exhibiting dental issues. Now I'm really starting to wonder if he may have some sort of autoimmune disorder that could be the root cause of these issues. The last time he was at the vet, their only suggestion was to try a limited ingredient food. Has anyone had any similar experiences? I have five cats of my own and absolutely cannot keep another cat, but I've got to get him straightened out before he can be adopted to a new home. I would welcome any ideas.
