My 10 year old squeakers had some bad gas problems. Ended up being hospitalized for a few days to get her back on her feet. She has been home for about a week and won't eat any of the hills perception food or royal canine food we got from the vet. The only thing she likes is fancy feast which usually makes her throw up. We give her 5mg of Pepcid before she eats to help with her stomach acid but still will puke from time to time. Tried natural balance and she liked it for a day. We've tried a bunch of others and no luck. She sniffs it and then looks up at us like "what the hell is this" she's become very skinny too. We just want her to eat and gain some weight back. She drinks water normally which is good but we are at a lose here and feeling very defeated. Would love some suggestions. Thanks

Just to clearify just raw store bought chicken and white rice boiled? How much chicken and how much rice typically and do you have to make it every time you feed

I am sorry. I just bought a pound of boneless breast and cooked it for about an hour. Then when that was done I used 3 cups of the chicken broth and a half cup of rice and boiled it until it was really mushy. I dont put salt in it. My baby loves it and will cry for it while its cooking. You can mix it together and then give her 3 or 4 ounces and store the rest. Feed it to her room temp or a little warmed.

Haha hopefully she likes it too. Have you any experience with natures variety instinct wet food? Just happened to stumble upon it and seems the people reviewing all had a smilar problem as mine.

Rice? No. cats are obligate carnivores. No rice! They can't digest grain well that could actually make your cat worse. It sounds like maybe she has either IBD or a food intolerance. I would suggest either moving towards homemade raw or cooked, or feeding a limited ingredients food. Something like Merrick LID or Nature's Variety Instinct. I would try and get her off all kibble as quickly as possible. Kibble is very hard to digest and is not good for cats that have digestive issues. Here are some links with more info.

Be very careful with chicken broth. Both garlic and onion are toxic to cats. I would not feed anything with chicken broth in it. I also would caution you against feeding your cat grains like rice. Cats can't digest grans like dogs can, it's not necessary. If you want to cook chicken for her just poach it in water. Make sure this is only a treat though because this is an unbalance diet and should not be fed regularly. You might look into buying a supplement if you want to feed her homecooked.

I just researched natures variety and based of what people have said about I am hopeful but fear she'll do the same thing. Sniff it and walk away. I'm going to pick up a few cans tomorrow and try out different flavors. She has to like one then...

Also she's has some sensitive stomach kibble but hardly ever touches it as it is so getting her off kibble would be simple.

I cook my chicken without anything in it then the broth from the chicken that I cooked I boil the rice in. I use the chicken and rice because several of the advisers in kitten care told me to use it. I am thinking of switching her to either a cooked by me or raw diet because they gave her the ID and I read the ingredients and it's junk. If I am paying that much for food I want it to be a good one.
