We got a kitten last night, we kept her in the bathroom with food drink and litter box as I was told. This morning she actually licked the water a little. But still no food or pee. I am really worried... how can I make her to eat and use the bathroom? This my first pet ever..still have a lot to learn.

Firstly, where did you get her from? 6 weeks is a bit young to be away from Mama. 8 weeks is generally the minimum and 10-12 weeks is much better.

What food are you tempting her with?

The very first thing she needs is to see a vet and make sure she hasn't got a respiratory infection or something else going on...the sooner the better, especially if she's not eating or drinking. A kitten that age can get dehydrated or fade VERY fast if they're not getting the proper water and nutrition intake.

She is very young. Where did you get her?

For now, she needs to stay in a small space where she has constant access to a litter box, food, and water. A kitten that young should always have dry kitten food down and should have meals of wet kitten food several times a day. Since this one is so young, she should also have bowls of kmr a few times a day.

Litter box should only have non-clumping litter.

She will need vaccines at 8 weeks and a spay appointment soon after.

Thank you talkingpeanut talkingpeanut Now she eats a lot which made me so happy. But she only went to the bathroom once yesterday...and its #1 no #2 yet. Is that normal? After the first bathroom experience she seems hate to go back. I tried to lure her in the tray again or put her in the tray but nothing works. Maybe i should change the tray and litter? Im using the tidycat brand and a small litter tray. Sorry Im acting like a moron... its my first time to own a cat well first time to own a pet. I seem to get worried on every little thing. Thank you so much for your help.

She will poop eventually. Give her a day or two to adjust. It's good she is now eating well!

We got a really cute kitty last week. She started to use the litter box the next day we got her. We were so happy, and thought shes been using it since. But I found out yesterday she was taking a #2 in the corner of the house, so I did what I saw online: show the kitty the dump and take her to the litter box. but she jumped right out. Today I found more poop in different corners, some are new, some are old.... I don't understand why...she has been using the litter box for #1 and #2. Does anyone know why she poops in the corner? btw... the dumps I found are all diarrhea...I will have to take her to the vet next week even they say its too early.

Showing the kitten her mistake will do nothing. You might need more litter boxes at this age and try moving one to the corner she's using. You might need to use a different litter. Non clumping is considered safer for young cats.

Observation is important. Never discipline a cat for not using the litter box. If you see your kitten starting to eliminate where she shouldn't gently scoop her up and take her to the box . Hold her front foot and try and stimulate digging. Six weeks is very young.

We also used an extra large dog crate for our babies when not supervised.

Thank you. Something came up to my mind...I used the deoderant spray every time after i scoop the waste out. After i thought about it, i started to realize this problem after i got the spray. I dumped all the litters and cleaned the box. Hope it works... thank you for responding me so fast :lol3: i appreciate.

Seconding the idea that she is too small to have full run of the house for now.  Kittens have to go when they have to go, and don't remember to look for a litter box.  She needs one right in front of her.  Until she is 8 weeks or so, I would limit her access to a room or two and have a few litter box options per room.  The whole house will also need to be completely kitten-proofed.

Where did you get this little one?  What are you feeding her?

Cat's noses are incredibly sensitive.  You may be right that she didn't like the deodorant spray.  I would stop using that and make sure you are using non-scented, non-clumping litter.  Make sure not to punish her for any mistakes.  She should get there soon.  She's a baby and she's learning.

My nine year old cat Starbuck was adopted by us when she was 6 weeks old.  We had small low-sided litter box in our den for her. Her litter box was on one side of the room and the food and water was on the other side of the room.  She was confined to the den for about two week when we were not home to supervise.  After about a week of being confined she kept waking us up talking because she was lonely.  My other cats were also waking us up when she was crying.  We gave up and let her sleep with us.  We did put an extra litter box in the bedroom for her so she never had any accidents. She would stay bed with us all night too.

She was too little to go up/down the stairs by herself at 6 weeks old so she did not have free roam of the house unsupervised until she was 8 weeks old.  She would shoulder surf on us to go up or down the stairs depending on where we were hanging out.

Starbuck was abandoned by some unknown person out a moving car window when she was around weeks old.  We have no idea what happened to her mom or siblings.

I had other cats that were great help in socializing her.  I adopted her when my two male cats were young seniors  and they both took care of her right away. The only thing I had to teach her was that nose biting was not an acceptable form of communication.  She caught on very quickly.  I would gently tap her on the nose and say no biting then place her on the floor and ignore her for a couple of minutes.  She very quickly learned she would not get attention from that behavior.

talkingpeanut talkingpeanut catlover73 catlover73 We got her from a friend. She has been eating the wellness kitten food and sometimes canned food. And we let her out when we are at home abd able to keep an eye on her. We kept her in the bathroom with food drink and litter box. I observed her once...ah went to the same corner and sniffed around, and i think she wanted to poop again there so I grabed her to the litterbox in the bathroom. It happened twice... so I think Im gonna get another box and put it in that corner...i just dont understand why sometimes she even shes in the living she would run back to the bathroom...but sometimes she doesnt seen to be in a hurry and she pooped in the corner...

Another problem that has been bothering me a little is that after my kitten poops, she always get some on her back paws. Its like she doesnt know how to properly clean herself or try not to get it on her paw. Is that normal? Is there any solution for that?

Kittens are a lot to handle, especially one so young. The kitten is too young to have learned any real cat manners from mom, so it will be even more difficult to train her, but she will learn in time. You'll have to pick up after her, and baby her because well, she's a baby. make sure she has scratching posts, toys, etc, and show her that those are to be used, and not furniture. She'll be interested in all of that in a few weeks. Expect some damage at some point (most of the time minor, unless your couch is leather! Haha. You can look into kitty caps/soft claws, theyre great) and remember to be patient, and know that cats cannot understand what punishing is for, you just have to teach her "no" and redirect her elsewhere.
She does need multiple boxes, some kittens don't even understand litter boxes at 6 weeks, and she is too tiny to hold it long enough to walk distance or really always remember to search for it. I suggest one per room that she is allowed in. She will prefer to use a box than a corner, the issue is she just can't hold it when she has to go.

I do clean her paws and butt afterwards but she seems to hate it a lot... cries everytime... i have to get my husband to hold her and distract her when i wipe her paws. It seems working but she still hates it.
