My 1 year old cat was meowing on and off for about half an hour-to an hour early this morning while I was in bed. I thought he just wanted to get outside, but it was too early and after awhile he gets the picture and sleeps awhile longer. I got up the fourth time he started meowing and realised his litter box had been blocked, he immediately went to the litter box and peed and i felt terrible!, but a few minutes later he pooped downstairs, unusual for him, but he did it once before not long ago too, it was pretty soft and a little runny, but he has come to bed since though he's tummy is rumbling or gurgling and he has a little gas, but he's sleeping fine. i'm probably overreacting but is he ok after holding it in for that long.

He is probably okay, but keep an eye on him for a couple of days.  Is he an indoor-outdoor cat?  Normally, if they poop outside the litter box it's because 1) if it's a hooded box it can hold in odors they don't like, 2) the box needs to be cleaned and 3) there is a problem and he's trying to let you know that.  If he has diarrhea, there could be any number of reasons for it.  Is he spayed?  Is he eating any dairy product whatsoever?  How long has his stool been runny?  Holding in urine can be a problem as can having diarrhea.  Do you have a vet for him?

He seems fine today and he slept through the night. He's an outside cat, but we bring him inside at night. Our litter box does have a hood over it, that may be the problem. I've only noticed it's been kind of runny last night.

I'd keep a close eye on his stool....if the diarrhea gets worse, or stays loose for more than 2-3 days, please see your vet ASAP.
My cats get very vocal right before they hawk up a hairball......
If you are worried at all, the best cure for worry is a trip to the vet. [emoji]128522[/emoji][emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]127996[/emoji]
