Hello again , one of our cats got caught in a window at home and spent a few hours wedged in.
Upon hearing him he was rescued and my wife quickly noticed he couldn't walk but could drag himself along the floor.
Sunday morning he was rushed to the after hours vet clinic , no leg movement , no response to stimulation , an X-ray was taken but could see no damage (Sunday ended up being around $1100)
We left him there , paid on the way out , and picked him up Monday .
Take him home , laying in bed , his legs are twitching while he dreams in his sleep , we pay him and he stretches and his claws come out in his hind legs!
If he has movement , he won't be a paralized cat?

Hi @yardcat

I'm sure someone will be along with more information for you soon, but in the meantime I wanted to point you in the direction of this thread. Kitten was thought to be paralyzed but has recovered.

There seems to be little doubt that your cat has suffered paralysis of the hind legs, even though there is involuntary movement (his legs are twitching).  What did your Veterinary surgeon say was wrong?

From the story  that you  have given it is possible that the spinal cord has been damaged  and swollen (oedematous is the technical term).  Recovery depends on the degree of damage but in mild cases it can be complete, given time, even without steroids .

Please let us know how the cat goes.

With best wishes,

Geoffrey

By all means check out the thread on the Kitten Who Can't Move. That kitten was completely paralyzed and has since recovered. Since your cat doesn't show any physical damage, there's a very good chance he will recover. It takes time and lots of love and attention and physical therapy.

It's been a long 4 weeks , we have given him physio everyday , cared and nurtured him with love and devotion
Just after the accident happened we were told by 2 vets that he may not walk again , my wife came home and cried and told me what they said , being a New Zealander , we treat animals with love and respect , I refused to have him out down .
My wife agreed reluctantly but we carried on , daily physio , hugs kisses and medicine every day .
Yesterday it had been a month ,I had recorded a video for you all too see , that he's walking again :)
It started with his tail twitching , then a few weeks later his legs twitched. The more we encouraged him the more he tried to stand up , to be strong and walk.
Not a day goes by where I don't think the words "put him to sleep because of quality of life" ring in my ears .
It took a month , his accident feels like yesterday , but in a short month we proved all the vets and experts wrong
When I get home tonight I'll upload a video

That's wonderful news. I'm so glad you didn't give up on him. Can't wait to see the video.
