Yeah, most spayed/neutered indoor cats can get by on 5.5 oz of Friskies pate a day, but because she's young and emaciated and you don't know if she's spayed. . .1 1/2 cans is probably about right. You don't want to overfeed an emaciated cat to get them to gain weight faster; you just want to feed them a normal amount so they can catch up slowly.

It's so rare to see an emaciated cat who doesn't have a health problem, as even dumped cats usually find someone who keeps food out. So either she was kept indoors and not fed, or she got dumped and was so scared she hid until she nearly starved. Poor girl! Hopefully she is either spayed or infertile due to malnutrition; it would be terrible if she were pregnant now.

From your mouth to God's ear!  It would be terrible, indeed!  We'll all send beams out on that one!

For right now we want to get some weight on her first and then take her to the vet again to get her vaccines and to determine if she needs to be spayed or not...When we asked the vet if she was spayed she told us she couldn't tell due to her weight. My husband and I think she was an indoor cat too and was being starved:(

A little beauty, Bowie!  Thanking you SO much for caring and putting that caring into action on her behalf.  She will give you far more love and loyalty than anyone else ever could!  I know cost is an issue -- as it is for most of us -- but if you can get some higher quality, hopefully grain-free dry food and mix a small quantity right in with her wet food at each meal, it might help to bulk her up.  A friend of mine always fed her cat this way and he loved it.  Just a suggestion:  DrsFosterSmith.com has a huge variety of wet and dry foods of various prices and they will ship directly to you!  They are now affiliated with Petco, as well.  Over $49 orders ship free, and you can arrange for auto-shipping and delivery at your convenience.  We've been using this for about 4 months and it is WONDERFUL.

The very best to Bowie and her family -- we can't wait to hear and see progress reports!

I don't have much to share as far as advice or suggestions go, but I just wanted to piggyback off of what others here have said that it is SO wonderful, kind, and generous of you to open your home to sweet Bowie! She is truly blessed to have ended up in your yard that fateful day. I'm glad she found herself a loving, caring parent like you!

It breaks my heart to think of the terrible conditions she was possibly subjected to before you took her in but thankfully that's all behind her and now all she has to look forward to is a loving, happy life with you!

A journal is a wonderful idea.  Make sure to add the photographs to is, as well as the story of how she came to you, vet visits, etc.  A year from now, you won't believe the changes!

I was wondering the same thing, Zed Xyzed!

Has she put on any weight, @boobear27?

Wow she already looks so much better!  She's giving the high life now!

Question: is that a scratch on her nose?

She looks SO good and I love that she has taken to her lovely kitty tree (complete with kitty TV) so quickly (it really can take some a bit to actually use a cat tree) She already looks much healthier and looks quite content in her new home [emoji]128571[/emoji]

Yes when brought her into our home she had a small wound on her nose and it has been healing

She doesn't really seem interested in her new cat tree..We kinda bribed her with cat treats to get her on it lol..She really didn't seem to know how to climb it at first, but she is getting the hang of it and once she gets on it she realizes how awesome it is.:)
