I've had this kitten since it was about maybe 2 weeks old so I'm guessing the age, it had a feral mother. Found in some machinery at work and we couldn't leave them be.

I've ran out of my batch of regular KMR and since I've never cared for a kitten before I have questions.

What can anyone tell me about KMR stage 2? My kitten easily eats it up, is there enough water in the little bit I feed him to stop dehydration?

Would anyone that knows what they are doing help me out?

I don't like KMR stage 2, have found it just gives them diarrhea!    I just use KMR powder mixed up and as they grow I add in a little grain free cat food like chicken & turkey or baby food (Beech Nut is best because it doesnt have anything in it but the meat; Gerbers now adds corn starch which cats do not need.)  You can also safely use goat's milk to mix with food until you can get another can of the KMR, but 4 weeks is really too young to put them on solid food other than just a teenie bit mixed up in the KMR.  When you do start them on food, start them on WET food.  Dry crunchies should only be a snack if you even use them at all.  Fancy Feast makes 2 flavors of kitten food.

I have never used KMR stage 2, so I can't specifically help you there. Is it liquid, like regular KMR, or is like an oatmeal-like texture, or is it something else? If it is liquid-y enough to put in a bottle/syringe, my recommendation is bottle feed it sometimes and sometimes put it in a bowl, and if it isn't, I would still bottle/syringe feed regular KMR for awhile in addition to to the KMR stage 2 -- if the kitten still actually wants a bottle, that is! Kittens have their suckling urges and I personally like doing a slow transition from bottle to bowl, it matches more closely what would happen if the real mother was around.

With Kismet, my bottle baby, I bottle fed her regular KMR for about 8 weeks, but added some canned food in her bottle starting around 4 weeks. She was very, very stubborn about the bottle and ignored all non-bottle food sources no matter what I offered her, haha. In contrast, the litter of kittens I have right now (fortunately with mother) started eating dry kitten food at 3 weeks. The kitten food was actually their mother's and I wasn't actually intending on offering it to the kittens yet, but, well, apparently they wanted it. They are five weeks old now and eat a mixture of canned and dry, but still regularly suckle their mother for milk.

For canned/dry food, I've used Royal Canin Babycat. It's expensive and I honestly think it is probably overkill, but for the dry food at least, I am super fond of the tiny little pieces it comes in; good for tiny little kitten mouths! But I agree with RTR -- start with some sort of wet food before dry food (assuming you don't have kittens that take the choice away from you, LOL). The KMR stage 2 might count as wet food? I'm not too familiar with it.
