Hi all, looking for some advice. I have a beautiful 7 month old Persian cat who I love dearly. Unfortunately due to her large eyes/face shape she has had conjunctivitis several times in the last few months (the first time was a bit of cat flu alongside, the second time she was squinting) and again now has some dark discharge from her eyes that crusts.

I clean her eyes and face twice a day with boiled water that has cooled down. I know with this breed to expect eye discharge but it is when it gets dark that I'm concerned. Currently she doesn't seem to be in pain or squinting/any other symptoms. I have taken her to the vets each time of course, she is 100% worth it but it's costing me a fortune and I'm worried this is going to be a monthly/recurring thing. They have given me Isathal each time and it works then it happens again.

Are there any other members with Persian companions who have a similar problem or have any tips for better prevention/recommendations for products that help? Is there anything I should be doing differently to clean her eyes? I just want my cat to be happy and healthy. Thank you.

I really don't know much about Persians, but found this thread (specially post #8 within this thread), which discusses a couple of "bugs", which might be the culprit.  You might ask your Vet if if she has been checked and treated  for either of these:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/102/grooming-persians

Also found THIS thread which really just discusses different ways to remove those tear stains and basically just clean their eyes:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/26856/removing-tear-stains-from-persians
