Good morning!

Do you collect anything? How did your collection start? How many have you got in your collection now?

I collect little Hello Kitty cell phone straps. When I first came to Japan I was only planning on staying a year and Kitty Chan stuff seemed like a good thing to collect as a souvenir of my visit. You can get them anywhere, the cell phone straps are small, light and fairly cheap. Also, every tourist spot I went to had a different Hello Kitty doll to represent that region. I've got so many of them now from all the different places I've been.

They look like this.

How about you, what do you collect?

I collect miniature raku pottery.  Very small pots.  I like ones that are regular glazed pottery also.  My favorites are by an artist who passed away some years back - I really cherish the pieces I managed to get of hers.  Here are a couple of them - I think I have 7 total. I've been looking online to no avail to see if others come up for sale but so far no luck.

I also love Fiestaware.  I have a 16 piece set of multi-colored dishes, plus many vases, bowls and other pieces.  There's another set of similar retro dishes from the 50's or 60's, I forget the name of them right now.

Used to collect Barbie dolls many years ago - not vintage at that time but now some are bordering on 30 years or so.  I have them in a box in my attic which isn't the best place for them but I just have zero room in my current home for them.  I didn't keep them in boxes for the most part so I'm sure they have suffered.

I also like vases in general and have lots of them.  I enjoy making arrangements from my garden and having a large variety to choose from of sizes, colors and styles is an enjoyable way to show the flowers off.

I collect unique cat sculptures/statues. My parents try to find one for every trip they've gone on- usually they're made based on the countries they've gone to. I probably have about 20 or so.

i don't really collect things, as i try to live a more simple life. however, i have collected tattoos. it's been many years since i've gotten a new one and it's doubtful i'll have any new tattoos done. i love the ones i have, and certainly do not regret having them done.

i started with a very badly done, very small tattoo. years later it was 'covered up'/made into a much more lovely and larger tattoo.

i think for me it's simpler to just say that i'm about 3/4's covered with tattooing.

Do cookbooks count? If so, then I collect cookbooks.

That's pretty much it at this point. I have a large bell collection, but don't even display them anymore, other than a few in the kitchen. They're packed away in the basement. I have a Fantastic Four comic book collection, but am thinking about selling some of them, esp some of the really old ones. We need to start downsizing the stuff a bit.

I have a collection of music boxes from over the years. Also I have a collection of cat figurines. I am thinking of getting rid of it all now. I am tired of dusting it all. :lol3:

I have been collecting antique postcards for about 3 years now, from around the year 1910, when "postals" were all the rage.  I have so many cards of New England from this time, but now I am mostly collecting antique cat postcards,  Cats
were very popular in early postcards, with some beautiful artwork.  I think I have over 1000, but maybe not 2000!  None of my cards are of great value, but I love to read what is written on them, from the past and the print and artwork are great.  I have them set up in categories like New England Seacoast, Boston, Worcester, Exhibitions, Easter, cats, etc.

@AbbysMom  , I also have a collection of milk bottles (a small one) of vintage milk bottles.  My father was a part-time dairy worker for his brother's dairy farm.  We also had a dairy farm just up the street from me that used to make deliveries  of milk in 1960's to all the houses.  I have some of their bottles. my brothers used to go with the milkman very early in the morning on the route, before school, to run the milk to the houses.  Too bad, this milk is a thing of the past.

Thanks everyone, I have enjoyed reading each post!!

I collect coins from foreign countries.  I don't have them displayed or anything though.  I have a few pieces of paper money as well.  One came from my mother's boss.   He bought a used book in another language and it was tucked in the pages.  I can't remember what country it came from now though.  I don't think it was worth much. But it was still neat!

I also collect Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments.  I don't go crazy; because that can be so expensive!  But there are certain series of them I like.  Or they represent someone I love.  Like I have a Cesna plane to represent my step-dad, Scarlet in a green dress with Rhett from Gone with the Wind to represent my Grandma (a movie she introduced my cousins and I to as kids and her favorite color).

I was collecting the Mutts Comics published as books; but I got way behind on that.

I think I've seen pictures of your collection. Interesting how different the cat sculptures are depending on where they were made.

That must look amazing. I'd love to get some more tattoos......if only they weren't so expensive.

@raysmyheart  That sounds like a lovely collection. Nice to read the messages people sent to each other in those days. People in the future will miss out on that as everyone sends text messages now.

I've got a huge box of postcards from my travels.

i love my tattoos very much.

and that's the reason i won't be having any new tattoos done, they're very expensive. i've been planning for my senior years, close to starting them now.

Lately, I've been collecting cans of cat food :lol3:

Um, yeah, I collect foreign coins and bills, just have them in a jar somewhere though. And older American coins, or just ones that are rarely used (like half and silver dollars). I don't have any fancy collections of things though.
