I know that he is VERY overwieght and i need to know a heathy weight and how to get him on a diet. Any help or information would be very appreciated! Thank you! If you're wanting your cat to lose weight you need to start with a LOW carb food. I would switch to wet food only, preferably cutting out the dry food altogether. Fancy Feast Classics are a very affordable option for a low carb wet food, it is often fed to Diabetic cats for that reason. "Feed an average size adult cat 1 can per 3 ½ pounds of body weight daily." So that would average out to be about 4 cans a day for your size boy. However, I am not 100% sure on if you cut that back or not to help with weight loss...hopefully another member can give you some insight into that.

Four cans would be about 400 calories if feeding Fancy Feast Classics.  That is WAY too much!

You do not necessarily need to eliminate dry food from your kitty's diet.  My two cats do well eating 36% dry, 50% canned, and 14% raw.  While feeding all canned/raw is ideal, you'll have to find a routine that works for you and your budget.

That said, how much you need to feed your cat would depend on several factors (such as their activity level, the caloric content of the food, etc.).  The webpage I linked in my previous post has information on how to determine how much to feed.

After you read the webpage, let us know if you need help finding a food to suit your kitty's needs.

lillypie lillypie was right about FF Classics being a better option than other FF varieties, so keep that in mind.

Every food is different so try to figure out and monitor how many calories you are feeding.

Good luck!! :)

Your vet is the best one to give you a target weight for your cat. Just like people, cats come in different sizes and shapes and what is a healthy weight for one cat may not be for another.

If your cat hasn't been to the vet within the past year, it's best to take him in for a physical and perhaps some basic blood work if he has not had this. Just to make sure he is healthy in other respects.

I apologize for hammering everyone with questions but I'm wondering how many calories he should be getting daily?
