So about a year ago my cat came home with a bite on the lower end of his tail. But recently he has been biting it constantly and the lower half part of it fell off (the small part where the bone ends). So i have tried to bandage it but he takes it off or when it heals he bites it open again. It currently looks fine until an inch down the tail it looks like a tomato with the top layer of the skin off and it leaks puss, blood, and a clear liquid. He really likes to go outside too so when he comes back inside it has dirt, leaves on it.

I don't know what to do

This is a very dangerous situation for your cat. His tail is dying, and the death of the tissues will spread to his body and kill him if left untreated. You need to take him to the vet ASAP and have it treated, which may mean the amputation of his tail. Don't play around with this - take him in first thing tomorrow morning.

And in the meantime, keep him in the house. Don't let him out.

I agree. This is serious, and your cat needs to see a vet immediately. Otherwise, infection could spread through his whole body and kill him.

Yes, please take him to the vet. My youngest male was a stray who had been taken in by neighbors, but then they made him an "outside only" cat and he started coming to my house. I kept going to their house and warning them that this was dangerous, finally the last time she said she was going to take him to the SPCA and I told her I wanted him because his is such a sweet boy. Anyway, during the last bit of time he was with them, someone slammed his tail in a door. The vet said it even could have been a garage door.

He had to get the end of his tail amputated and needed two courses of antibiotics. He also needed to go in and have his bandage replaced every so often. Stop letting him out and please take him to the vet. Go to Google and type in "low cost veterinarian" if you are worried about paying and low cost clinics should come up for your area. Also, many places offer a free first visit. You can also apply to places like Red Rover for help paying for urgent veterinary care https://redrover.org/redrover-relief-grants and CareCredit is another option.

I hope you have been able to get your cat to a vet @guy295  , I agree with DreamerRose and others that this is a very serious situation needing urgent vet care.

Here is more information on how to try to find funds to pay for vet care in case this is a problem for you.

The end of his tail must be amputated or it will continue to spread up his tail which is going to be an even bigger/worse problem for him.
