My husband and I went to restaurant and the had a pack of cards with those "conversation starter" questions. I took pics of some of the better ones so you'll be getting questions from those from me for the next little bit. :lol3:

First up -

Have you ever tried a fad diet?

Dieting is the story of my life, but I can't really ever remember myself jumping in and going full steam into one. I've tried the miracle weight loss soup, etc, but only as a few meals, not ever as a full diet.

Not since I as in my teens at my mom's prompting.  Went on a mostly hamburger (no bun), cottage cheese and grapefruit diet.  This was in the 1970's.

I wasn't even heavy when I look back at pix - but my mom seemed to think I could lose a few, or maybe felt she needed the support, who knows. So, essentially it was a high protein kind of diet.  Of course, did not work except for the very short term.

I really didn't diet most of my life.  I was never thin, but never heavy.  I hate that when I look back at photos of me up to around my 30's that anyone ever made me feel I wasn't "right".  So many people do this, it's really detrimental to one's self image.

Since I hit my 40's, however, it did change due to physical reasons mostly (and some laziness too).  Since then, I periodically go back to using Weight Watchers. The most I've lost was around 60 pounds over 9 months but I was really restricting my calories to about 1200-1300 a day.  I can't do that anymore at 57 - I know I need at least 1400 to feel ok.

The past few years has been especially hard to keep weight from creeping up.  At least, I've pretty much gotten to a point where I don't hear other people's voices in my head about my weight now.   I think all fad diets are bound to fail eventually and just aren't healthy.  Weight Watchers for the most part, is easy to follow and allows for some leeway.  It isn't perfect either, but at least gives some guidance to healthier eating.  And honestly, I'm straddling the fence about cutting out animal proteins not only for health reasons but for moral ones too.  I'm just not quite there yet.

I did the 21 day fix last summer. I did lose some weight but I wasn't happy on it so I stopped.

Now I'm doing Adrian gagnon but it's not a fad. Just a meal replacement bar in the morning.

Not a fad diet as such, but I have done a couple of three-day fasts where you just drink hot water with lemon juice and a bit of maple syrup to clean out your system. The first day was the hardest, after that you don't really feel hungry. Just kind of spaced out.

I am considering trying that 21 day fix. I hear people did well on it.. but I don't like being told what I can and can't eat. I doubt I'd last on it.

The commercials are very misleading. You are allowed 3 treats per week but you have to give up a carb for the day for a very small amount of treat/wine. It's basically eat a crap load of fruits and vegetables and do repetitive workouts.

That's the other thing.. I can't eat a lot of veggies and some fruit due to the medication I am on. I might as well starve myself or eat the same thing every day.

I may try it for a few days just to see.

I used to do that one weekend a month!  Long, long ago, in my more energetic and idealistic days.

I haven't tried a fad diet.  I remember my parents doing the grapefruit diet.  It's been a while since I have heard about that one.  I am 60 and that was while I was still a kid so it's been a while back.  I have know a couple of people who did the cabbage soup diet.
