I have an 8 month old blue bi color Ragdoll named Casper. I got him from a breeder in December. She gave us the smallest kitten of the litter. We were not allowed to choose our kitten. But I of course fell in love anyway. She gave us a brand of kibble that she was using for her cats. Casper would not eat it. We tried different foods. Eventually he got very sick. He had diarrhea and vomiting. Turns out he had a bacterial infection in his gut and we had to put him on probiotics and antibiotics to make him better. Now he is on Hills science diet digestive. Which is a chicken stew. He can only eat this. Anything else causes diarrhea pretty much.

His poop is still mush and it reeks. Even after we take it out, the house will continue to smell. Does anyone else have a particularly stinky Ragdoll?

Also he is always starving. Always. We feed the other cats in other rooms or else he would eat until he was sick!

Oh he's gorgeous. :)
It's quite common for cats to have digestive issues it seems. And it can be frustrating to pinpoint the cause. One of my cats, Wiggies, had foul chronic diarrhea for the first few years of his life and we thought we'd never get him sorted. But now thank goodness, he's a nice solid pooper.
I don't know if Ragdolls are inclined towards gastro issues more than other breeds.
So is the Hills science diet the wet food? You could try adding a small amount of plain pyslluim to it every day. We've done that off an on for both our cats over the years when they've had issues and it does help firm up their stools. Don't give too much though! Just a tsp per day should be enough.

Thank you! Sometimes my mom makes him chicken and rice to stop the diarrhea which the vet said was okay. The Hills Science Diet is the wet food. He won't eat the dry food. I can get him to eat kitten chow though which is better than nothing I guess. Was your cat a Ragdoll as well? Where do I get psyllium?

I know you said that a bacterial infection was found, do you know what test was used?  Anytime I hear of a kitten with soft stinky stool I think of a parasite.  There is a PCR stool test that will find things that the routine float test done at the vet's won't find.  I think that would be worth having done if it hasn't already been done.  He could well have a parasite along with the bacterial infection that he had.

He is gorgeous.  I hadn't heard of ragdolls having the stool issues anymore than other breeds.  The only thing that ragdolls have issues with is hairballs and sometimes vomiting that is caused by the swallowed hair.   I don't think it is the breed but rather that gorgeous thick coat that they have.

Has the kitten been wormed? It sounds to me that he has a food allergy and needs a fecal test done on the stinkies.

Canned pumpkin is also an option-you can try 1/2 tsp in the wet food a day=you can use as much as 1 or 2 teaspoons if you don't see results=pumpkin is a kind of fiber and it has been known to stop diareaha and constipation. my three cats get canned pumpkin daily-one eats it out of the dish and the two others I have to mix into food.

what about a limited ingredient diet like rabbit or venison to see if he has an allergy to chicken?

Natures balance has some limited ingredient canned foods that other members have had success with..

Do u have any recommendations for types of canned food?

I have a cat that was from a contained colony that was seriously inbred. The cat had gooey eyes and chronic diarrhea .She still has the bowel problem now 10 years later. We have done EVERYTHING possible involving a vet.Stools stink, vomiting, constantly seeking food. She's been examined over and over ,tests, stool tests, bacteria, virus etc, thousand $$ later - no improvement AT ALL. Reading responses from this post I've come across more possible remedies.Thanks.I do hope we both can help these lil ones.

I don't have any experience w/ this, but I agree on a stool sample test, & trying some pumpkin.
Just make sure it's pure pumpkin, no spices, like in the pie filling. ;)
Other than trying a hypoallegenic food, limited ingredients, or somethig for sensitive tummies.
I'm not sure. Some probiotics will be good to.
