My two indoor boys have been sniffing the door and such and now i know why....They have made friends with a small black kitty with white whiskers from outside! I think its a small girl. Perhaps 8 pounds or so. Shes not that friendly and hisses at me every time she sees me. But shes willing to get about 6 feet from me. Underneath her fluff she seems kind of skinny but she doesnt seem to be doing terrible. Being the cat lover that i am i started feeding her. The previous strays i rescued from my apartment complex have been friendly but i think i may need a trap to capture her. I cant take another cat in but im thinking of getting her TNRd. Any thoughts? She has been hanging around my apartment for the last week or more now. Since shes not very friendly i dont think she is owned....pics below.

Since she is out and about during the day and here look does not appear to be "deer in the headlights".  I don't think she is a true feral.  She may have been owned at one time and taken on feral like characteristics since living outside on her own.

It would be great if you could TNR her and is it a possibility to foster her and see if she is more social than you think and then see about adopting her out?  She would need a space of her own to recover and then to socialize.

If you TNR her, would you still feed her and provide her with shelter during bad/cold weather?

Thank you for caring for her and wanting to help her.

I dont think i can rehabilitate her because she would take some time since she doesnt like people. I live in a one bd apt so i dont have extra rooms. My apt doesnt allow more than 2 cats and honestly they dont know about my 2 kitty boys in the first place lol. But yes id be willing to do a hands off style care.

Omg my boys keep attracting more cats!! This is a brown tabby less than a year old and doesnt look fully grown. He doesnt look malnourished but hes been coming by to visit my cats the last couple of days...what to do ugh.

Hes taking refuge by my apt since were having a storm atm.

He is very curious about inside...

And hes in...

So the young brown tabby is obviously more bold but also hisses if i get to close. I was kind of worried about how to get him out. But once he got close to the door i started shuffling around to make noise to make him leave.

Outside looking in now...making growly noises at my cats...

I guess i need to buy a trap!

You said she looks skinny? She is most likely an abandoned stray (Ferals tend to look very healthy) and may already be spayed or if not, she may have  very recently had a litter. If she has a litter, you might want to try and locate it so that the kittens can be TNR or adopted. The vet can determine if she has been spayed.  Hope this helps a little.

Do you have any rescue organizations near you that could help you out?  What about taking the newest one to a no kill shelter?  He might be able to be adopted?  You might see if you could lure him into a carrier with some yummy food.

Well basically if im going to capture any of the cats, it'll be to get them neutered. Of course they will be scanned for any microchip and to see if theyre neutred already. I have a no kill shelter near me that i have used before but i know they're more likely to take in a friendly cat. I dont want to go through the risky process of capturing them and taking them to a shelter only to be denied. If they seem to warm up to me once they are neutered then i will consider taking them to the no kill shelter. To me getting vetted is the first priority. I agree the 2nd cat seems to have potential for getting adopted one day. I just dont have the extra space to keep them separated from my house cats for something longer than a few days.

Longhairs rarely look that good without care. Are you sure she's not a neighbor's cat? The way she looks at the camera tells me she isn't a true feral and her condition makes me think she's owned. She may be suspicious of stragers but that's no wild cat.

If she's a she and not spayed, she'll be pregnant or nursing right now.

The tabby looks like he's in pretty good condition, too. And he came inside! But he's at that age that he may have been thrown out for not being cute anymore :(.

Anyway, yes, getting them TNRed would be great, if necessary. But it would also be a good idea to communicate with the neighbors and see who's owned and all that.
