My cat Loki has passed away. If you have outside cat, put them up during the night. I always do that. I put mine away into a dog kennel every night. Only because the predators this year are very bad. I wasnt able to get Loki put up, usually he sleeps on the porch, but I guess he wanted to do something and went off for the first time in two years. That was in December, I live on 50 acres of land and I couldn't find him. February 12th I found his body. He had dragged himself away from his attacker, which we had figured was a coyote as we had seen 3 of them earlier that month. It most likely was the 2 young ones we saw.
Ghey weren't into eating him... they just wanted to play... his back legs were gone (I found them farther away from his body), his tummy was sliced open, and half his face was gone. I could see the shuffle marks on thd ground where he was trying to drag himself to the house. He had almost made it.

Don't let your cats stay out at night, I don't want others to go through that.

That any sweet little cat should ever have to go through that sickens me, I still have nightmares about finding one of my own ferals in a similar way. My heart cries for what you are going through, the images will be seared onto your brain like they are on mine.  I pray that they quickly went into shock and were numbed, all we can do now is know it is over and that they are out of pain now. Try to not dwell on it, I know that is impossible to do at the beginning, I was sick to my stomach every time I thought about it. Nature is cruel, there is absolutely nothing you can do to change it. The coyotes are hunted and maimed by man and dog, and man hurts other men. It seems that there is always something that must die to provide life for another, even vegetarians must kill plants to survive. The only thing I can think of to make your property more safe is to get a couple of greyhounds ( which many ranchers keep to keep the predators away) or any other big hunting dog, they would keep the coyotes at bay. You need two to protect each other if attacked.

Loki in no way deserved to die like he did, he was loved and wanted, and had a wonderful home with those he loved. There is nothing we can do to change the past, but we must go on and try to make things different in the future. You are doing something positive in Loki's name, you are warning others of the dangers and making them more aware of what can happen, thank you for that. He would never want you to be so sad when thinking of him. try to not dwell on the end, but celebrate what time you did get to share, and let your precious memories of happier times comfort you. I wouldn't wish this kind of pain on anyone, I'm so very sorry you have to go through it. Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of such a wonderful little friend and family member, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. RIP dear Loki, you will be forever held in a loving heart, your star shines bright at the Rainbow Bridge!

It was an awful thing to come home to. I still have nightmares. Im glad for the closure, but I miss him very much, I would have rather he had been stolen. I have learned a great deal from it and the coyote has left my property (we haven't seen signs of it anywhere) but I still put my cats up at night. Thank you all who have commented.

I also do not want to open the link to whatever it may be (I wouldn't be able to bear it), but please know that I'm very sorry for your loss.

I really feel for those who have outdoor kitties / ferals in areas with major predators. I'd be worried constantly.
