Lizzy had her kittens 9 days ago. They've all gained well and doubled their weight on day 6. My question is this, she seems to be going stir crazy. She's in the guest bathroom downstairs, it's a large full bath, but I only go in a few times a day to make sure she's fed and check on things. I wanted to give her time without distraction to figure the mom thing out. Can I let her out for a few breaks now? How long can she be away from the kittens?

Yes, let her out of the bathroom. She can be away for 1-2 hours at a time while they sleep. Around the 3-week mark they all need to come out of the bathroom for good. Do you have a spare bedroom you can move them to? Or into your own bedroom? I don't blame her for being stir crazy after so long in the bathroom!

I've let her out several times, but just for 20 minutes or so. Yes, the bathroom is attached to a bedroom. I guess I can leave that door open for her too. I also didn't want my kids bothering them while they were so little. I'll let her out more often now. Thanks! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I think she'll be happier for it. Let your kids know the bed/bath is off-limits for now. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

The kittens are now 4 1/2 weeks old and are lapping up kmr from a dish. They also love eating turkey baby food from my finger. I read that you should introduce a litter pan when they show interest in food, but I've yet to see any evidence that they're going to the bathroom on their own. Mom still takes care of that after meals. Should I introduce one anyway? Thanks!

It wouldn't hurt to put one down. We have a litter that age at the shelter, and two of the three just started peeing in their litter box yesterday. They're just starting to sample wet food.

I just introduced the food/kmr yesterday since I noticed a bunch of teeth, they took right to it.

I'll try introducing a litter pan tomorrow. Thanks!

It might be easier to use a tote lid with some kitty litter on it instead of a litter pan that way they don't have to hop up to get in just an idea that how we started with our girls

I'm just using a shallow tin baking pan, it's maybe an inch high. Will that work?

That works! Just make sure it's non-clumping litter, as I'm sure you're aware.

My foster kittens started using the litterbox as soon as they got onto solid food. It was a very instant transition. I'm guessing that they learned from their mama.

I've put them in and helped them scratch, but mom still seems to be adamant about being in charge of bathroom duty so I'm thinking it'll take time.

They were in a small kiddie pool but they've been moved to a gated area in the dining room now, they were climbing out.

They are adorable!

Just keep trying with litter training. They may not be quite ready yet.

The kittens are now over 8 weeks old, will be 9 weeks on Saturday. I don't want to let them go without being fixed first. I'm having the hardest time finding a place that will do that for less than 350 a kitten. So frustrating! Mom doesn't want them to nurse anymore so she'll be getting spayed soon too.

What's your city and state and I'll look for a low-cost clinic.

Long time no hear from! You last had 9-week-old kittens to fix and rehome. Never heard from you on a city and state to help you find a low-cost clinic. Did you find one?

We'd love an update! [emoji]128522[/emoji]
