Hello -

New here and just wondered if anyone could help with some issues we are having with our 12 yr old (special needs) kitty.

The History -

We have had her from age 4 months ... she's always had issues ... tummy problems (diarrhea)  for the first several months of life .... corrected w/chicken & rice and cottage cheese and turkey .... developed urinary problems age 2ish .... still has .... keep in check with prescription diet (as best we can due to her brother eating other cat food)   Developed epilepsy at age 7 - on anti-seizer meds for approx. 1 year and weened her off successfully!

Now, throwing up (2 x's a week) and losing weight - Usually happens when old food is left out.? Its the weight issue that took us to her Doctor. Scan shows thickening of stomach wall & lower intestine ..... We did Not do exploratory surgery it is either IBS or lymphoma (she also has heart problems which is why we opted out of surgery) SO ...... we are now going to try B12 shots for 6 weeks (oh yeah her B12 is very low) all other blood work is fine -

and and new diet food ROYAL CANIN Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP dry food -

and her doctor wants to put her on steroids to see if it will help her gain weight ......

Has anyone had issues like this?

Has anyone tried diet and no steroids? With success?

I don't want to start her on steroids.

Any help at all would be appreciated!

thanks a bunch - barbara

I highly, highly suggest you join the Facebook group Raw feeding for IBD. Those people are amazing and smart and can get you in the right direction for treatment. They are going to suggest you move into a home cooked or raw diet because RX foods are pretty terrible and steroids have some pretty serious side effects. There are hundreds of people there with success stories of managing IBD with diet and supplements alone. It's clear your girl has a lot of medical issues and no doubt she would benefit from a raw or homecooked diet.

Thank you so much! I'll check them out ..... I have thought of home cooked meals and we might go that route because

we hate the thought of steroids :(

thank you again! barbara
