About a month ago my daughter brought home an abandoned cat she found outside her school, well We soon found out she was pregnant, she gave birth 2 weeks ago to 7 kittens one sadly died, we initially had the mom(Sarah) and her kittens in my daughter's room but one time my daughter caught her moving the kittens under her bed so we decided to move them to a cabinet that we fixed with a pillow and blankets so a couple of days later my husband caught her trying to move the kittens again this time she was moving them into my room my question is does she not feel safe? What should I do?

She want to move them.  Cats do this.  Let her move them and then make sure it is a safe area or make it safer for her.  She is beginning to socialize them and may want them closer to people.

That's very interesting, I've never owned a cat before so all of this is new to me. Thank you for your advice.

One point.  Are you changing the bedding now and then?  Even if there is some risk momma will feel disturbed, but they do change old nests to new, to get fresh bedding...

Its one of the reasons why they may change a nest place.

Yes, they do tend to move them, for the above mentioned reasons, and occasionally for mysterious reasons of their own.

If you've never had a cat before, you've stumbled into the right place.  There are a whole bunch of very experienced folks on here who will be thrilled to talk you through any issues you may be having...and NO question is a stupid question when it comes to the well-being of your cat!  Ask away, and we'll do our best to assist!

Thank you, I've been trying to figure it out on my own, thank god the kittens were born without complications or else I would have freaked out. The kittens eyes are starting to open now, yesterday one of them had one open and the other semi open this morning when I checked up on them the semi open one is closed is that normal or what should I do? 2 of the kittens still have their eyes closed still should I worry? it's been two weeks already

Does the eye look like it's stuck closed? It's not abnormal for them to open on different days.

I went back to check on her eye and it's good now I think the semi openness was due to the fact that she had just woken up, I worry about every little thing [emoji]128517[/emoji]

Twice a week perhaps. There are breeders whom change daily.
I'll try and change it as often as possible, today I caught her moving the kittens into my closet she's been eyeing it for a couple of days now

Closets are a favorite.  They are dark, quiet, and enclosed, like little caves, but with heating and a/c!  What's not to like?

I had a cat when I was, oh, maybe 12, who managed to get outside and attempt to give birth under a large patch of Spanish Bayonet plants

during a driving sleet storm.  That was an experience I still shudder over.  The patch was about twice the size of this picture, and I was wearing a combat jacket, two pairs of jeans, gloves, two wool hats and swim goggles (those points are sharp!), crawling under those wretched spikes, hauling out newborns and mama, and passing them off to my dad.  Ophelia was quite put out with me, although once she realized that everyone was warm and dry, she settled down very nicely.

Wow that's one cat experience I hope to never have, cats are just so peculiar, thanks for sharing your story

Oh, my word! What an experience! Thankfully, you were able to save them all.

Yes, closets are great. My cat had her kittens in a closet, and stayed there with them for 3 weeks before moving them to my bedroom.

How's the family doing?  Now that you're here, and with kittens, well bug you to death for updates and pictures!

Hekitty is referred to as "My furry sister" by my somewhat bemused and mildly disgusted sons (they are not animal people.  They are total computer geeks.  I don't know where they came from...).  My mother always referred to which ever feline held sway in my house as "My grandcat."  Tell the husband that at least these won't wreck his car or ask for $500 dollar prom dresses, or apply to Yale!
