Hi,

My ginger cat is driving me crazy meowing to go out. He keeps moving from door to window to another window, just looking out and meowing.

He used to be very happy staying indoor. I used to let him out only once a week for a couple of hours and he would come back home on his own after having enough of the fun outside.

The behavior started to change after i rescued a cat mom with her 4 kittens and kept them on the balcony. Although i don't let her come inside so that they don't fight and not to change their routine, he started changing behavior ever since and keeps meowing crazy and howling to go out.

I tried to get him to play and distract him, we also have another cat who tries to play with him but he ignores him and just keeps jumping from the door to the window looking out.

i realise that cats do not like change and he might feel threatened etc. but his meowing is starting to drive me crazy. Any ideas on how best to handle this?

If your cat is not neutered than probably he wants to go out because he smells the other cat and wants to mate, not because he feels threatened.  Don't have any useful ideas on how to stop him from meowing but hope this explains why he's behaving like this. You could try to distract him fro the other cat by engaging him in play or something like that though

Yes, if he's not neutered I definitely recommend that as a first step. Please let us know!

How old are the kittens? How warm is it outside? It sounds like they might need a spare room inside. The kittens will need socialization, and mom will need to be handled and spayed. Do you plan to keep them?

Thank you for your replies.

He's neutered, he just cries to go out whenever i approach the window. I've been ignoring him for the past 2 weeks and not doing any eye contact while he meows it's kinda working.

the Kittens are less than 2 months old now, i don't have a spare room inside but it's ok outside they're quite playful and happy and i go out and play with them constantly so they're used to humans and are not afraid. they even follow me around. very cute.

They are to be adopted soon but don't want to pull them away from their mom too soon. She was still feeding them so i couldn't spay her but i'm taking an appointment to spay her soon as they will be old enough.

Thanks for the help.
