Hi!

Almost two days ago my darling persian lady gave birth to two beautiful kittens. She was the perfect mother the first day, but after this she has decided to leave them for, what I think, too long. She just lies a few metres away, sleeping, eating or just chillin' and doing her thing. When the kittens cry she comes running back, but that is if she can hear them. She is an excellent mother when she stays with them, letting them eat and cleans them and seems pretty loving. They usually just sleep in a pile when she leaves, and their tummys looks round and full.

I'm afraid they will get cold when she leaves them and she won't be able to hear them cry. Should i worry or just let her handle it the way she wants?

I keep a heating pad in their box under the sheet. It only covers half the box so they can go off if it gets too hot.

I also keep sophie in the same room as her kittens. But she does take breaks when they're sleeping. She'll go onto my bed and lie by my feet watching them and the second one stirs or starts to cry she flys bask into the box.

Cat mommas just like human mommas need a break from time to time.

As long as she's taking care of them and they're gaining weight I wouldn't be worried.

Thank you for calming me!

I don't have access to a heating pad at the moment, so i put a bottle with hot water with a towel wrapped around near them. I'll keep an eye out for any changes though :)

Oh, and I almost forgot! Here's some pictures of my babies ^^

So sweet! I would advise closing mom in a room with babies for the first few days. She can have a nest, food, water, and her litter box in there, and it will insure that she stays close while she's settling in. I agree that time outside the box is fine as long as she returns when they cry.

Would also recommend that you weigh the kittens each day to make sure they are getting enough.

Can you keep mom 100% inside and away from intact males? She can get pregnant again within a week of delivery and without going into heat.

She decided to have them in a closet in our hallway. I tried moving them but she just kept crying when the kittens cried, and she didn't want to go in the box i put them in, so i decided that she knew best :p I am able to close off half of our apartment though, and I put the food and litter box close by.

I started weighing the kittens last night, so i got that covered!

She is deadly terrified of leaving our apartment, as soon as she hears the door open she quickly move to another room if she was nearby. We have a neutured male, but we keep them separated because he can be a bit too much at times. The father of the kittens is my brothers persian, and they do not live close by. We don't really have any strays or outdoor cats here either, since we live in the city.

Great, what were the birth weights?

How old is mom? Is this her first litter? Do you plan to breed her again?

I dont know their birth weight because my scale went on a strike that day, but when they were 1 day their weight was 86g and 96g.

She is a little over 2 years. She went in to heat at 1½, and the first mating was unsuccessful as they were both inexperienced. This is her first litter, yes. If she handle this litter well i plan on having one more, but if not she will be spaid along with the kittens when they are 12 weeks (it's illegal to sell kittens under 12 weeks in Sweden).

That sounds like a good plan. I'm sure you know that she shouldn't have more than one litter per year. Also very glad that the kittens will be spayed and neutered.

Yes ofcourse! And i would never have mated her without having suitable homes in advance for the kittens. I plan on keeping one aswell :)
