What do you think her kittens will look like?

She is due any day now, but just for fun I figured we could guess what the babies will look like.

I've spent the past several weeks studying on the subject, and know all the boys will take after mama. She does have white patches on her neck, chest, and lower tum, as well as her paws. So they could come out tabby pattern, with different levels of white, correct? As far as I know the girls could be white, tabby/white, gray, gray/white. Am I wrong or did I get them all? Are there anymore possible colors/patterns she could have?

Here she is, she's a mackerel tabby:


Here are the the possible fathers, one is mostly solid gray with the tiniest spot of white on the chest, and the other father is a marble silver tabby tabby (the lighting makes him look brown):

The blue one, he carries black too.  So kittens may be black (with our without the white spot and tabby).

Mackerel tabby dominates over marbled tabby.  But there may be marbled kittens anyway.  It depends on if she is doubled on the mackerel tabby gene, or not.

Likewise, it depends on if his marble gene is doubled or not...

Say both have the gene singled and he is the father:  Half of the kittens will prob be mackerel tabby.  And half of the rest marbled tabby. At least half of them will carry white spots.  The exact colors may vary.

With the grey one as father, half will be mackerel tabbies, some with white spots, and half prob tuxedos or solids, black or greys...  I think.

The complication is, BOTH males may be fathers, one or more kittens each.  The statistics will get more complicated.

But multiple fathers although both theoretical and practically fully possible, isnt that common as people thinks.  Most often the very different kittens may be quite easily explained by knowing some basic cat genetics.

Ah,  there are at least two variations more fully possible.  You can get  a point and or also a longhaired kitten.   As both these genes are recessive so they dont show off on a single gene carrier.   But if two such carriers meets, whoa! one of four kittens becomes double gened and will have such.

The hereditary for the point ("siamese-mix") gene and the longhair gene is similiar.
