My cat, Dobby, had been missing for two days. I wasn't very worried because we live in the country and he goes in and out of the house as he pleases. Today I came home and he came inside. His paw is about four times its normal size, slightly skewed, and there is a wound on both sides of his leg approximately an inch and a half above his paw. Everything below the injury is swollen. He is in a lot of pain but he is walking about and acting normal, just with a limp. The only time he is in real pain is when his paw touches something or if I touch it. My mom says she thinks he was caught in a hunters trap and that she thinks his leg is broken. She told me that since we can't afford surgery to have him put down. I don't know what to do. I put antiseptic on it and cleaned it. I don't want to have him killed for something that should be fixable. I love him and he loves me. All the money I have right now is $200. Does anyone know how I can help my cat with that?

Honestly, and this is going to be the most obvious option, all you can do is take it to the vet. If your cat is seriously injured to the point of surgery, I wouldn't try to fiddle with it unless you're a professional.

That being said, please don't euthanize your cat when it's something this simple. If you can't afford it, all I can tell you is to take him to your local shelter and explain to them what happened and you have no money and give the cat away so it can get proper care rather than death. I hope you can figure something out! [emoji]128533[/emoji]

Also, most vets offer a CareCredit card , you sign up for it and tell them how much your bill is and they're give you the money if you're approved and you pay it back like a credit card. You can go to their website and type on your vet to see if they offer that!

So it turns out that Dobby is fine! It's just a bad infection from a bite. Nothing that antibiotics and a checkup appointment can't fix. My mother had me convinced it was worse even though my first thought was a bite. He got antibiotics and a rabies shot and he's good to go. And it was only $77.

That's great news!

Is he neutered? If he isn't, he's very likely to continue being injured by other intact toms.
