Hello I would like to ask a couple of questions about my two female cats. Before anything is said I was going to spay them until I found out both of them were pregnant so after they have there kittens I will spay them. My two questions are my female cat used to be a stray cat but still kinda mean. She had a litter of 7 kittens after them being 4 weeks old she is leaving them alone most of the day and is barley with them. Is that normal or is something wrong with her. Now my other female cat I am unsure she had the kittens but was gone for 2 days just got home yesterday asking for food. I am unsure of where her kittens are I followed her but still is unknown I know they are still in my neighborhood though. What I am worried about is the kittens get eye infection and might lose there eyes also if someone calls animal control. Do you think I should let her on her own or should I do something Thank you very much for your response.

You should apparently do your most to get them inside.  It will also be easier to socialize them.

Its both outside or just one outside?

Re nr 1, not all are as good moms as others, but in nature she would of course go around and try to find food.  So that is perhaps in part what she is doing?

Also, remember the risk they get pregs anew already now.  Cats unlike humans, arent protected by giving milk.

Yes, please try to move everyone inside. The moms can get pregnant again within a week of delivery, and you are right that there are major health risks, like she infections. The kittens will also need to be taken in to be socialized and spayed/neutered. Otherwise, you are about to have a huge feral cat colony.

Both female cats are outside but one of them is in the backyard I set up a place for them and her to keep warm. At night I bring in the 7 kittens since she leaves all night and comes back in the morning between 8:00 to 9:00 am. I feed her every two hours so she wouldn't have a reason to hunt for food. Thanks For Responding back.

Please consider bringing both families in all the time, at least until everyone is spayed/neutered. She may not be leaving the yard much, but she is leaving every night and a tom cat WILL find her. They are very persistent.

Both moms will get pregnant again before you know it.

Very true I'm very worried about infections and aggressive kittens. I need to find where she put them in order to keep them with me inside with her. Thank for the response.

If you have a smart phone, you can play newborn kittens mewling.  The cat whose litter you can't find should go looking for her litter.

I agree it would be best if both litters could be brought inside.

Yea this does not sound good. The problem is one of the moms is a stray cat which is a bit aggressive and would maybe pee everywhere. You try to pet her she hisses.

I will try to do that thank you very much. Yes I bring in the first litter of 4 week kittens in since it gets cold she is not there and another thing night predators.

If you can't bring her inside I would go ahead and bring the aggressive mom in for a spay at 6 weeks. It's a bit too soon, but it's the exception to the rule if the mom is somewhat feral. You can also bring the mom inside and contain her and the kittens in a bathroom. She will likely use a litter box, especially if you put dirt in it.

Thank you for all that you do. They will be so much happier and healthier inside.

You need to start feeding the 4-week-old kittens when you bring them in. They should not go all night long without eating!

You'll need kitten chow, canned pate style wet food like Fancy Feast, and a can of powdered KMR, which is kitten milk replacer. Mix up the kitten formula with the wet food to make a mush, and feed it to the kittens on a paper plate. They also need a small kitten size box of litter to begin using. And they need to stay in the house. How many kittens are there in this litter? Will the mom come in too? I hate to say it, but she's probably leaving her kittens because she is in heat already. Can you make arrangements to keep her in and get her spayed asap?

You'll need to try to locate the other mom's kittens too. If that mom is semi-feral, but you can get her and her babies in, they may need to be closed up in a room alone together, such as a bathroom, so she doesn't pee everywhere.

Please let us know how all this goes!

Can you try to feed the 4-week-olds tonight and let me know how they do? Also, a picture would be nice!

Thank you for caring for these neighborhood strays! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I think i'm going to have to care for these kittens myself. Yesterday she left them half of the day lets them eat a little than leaves. Today she came fed them in the morning and has left. She rarely feeds them now. I will try to do the food. One question giving them canned food wouldn't make them aggressive with the food and siblings. One time I fed a litter of 5 kittens canned food which later on turned food aggressive and would attack siblings and my two male cats. I will get pictures as soon as I get them the food. They are doing very well right now sleeping to keep warm since its very cold outside. And for my female cat I have not seen her in two days she might be feeding her litter of kittens but If I see her I will try to get her inside with her litter. Thank you.

I could not bring her inside because she will get very crazy but I am going to start feeding these kittens myself at night since it's the time she isn't here. Thank You. Also I will for sure spay her.

Can you get a humane trap to spay her? She should be spayed now.

Please bring the litter in full time now. There will not be food aggression if they are all getting enough. They should not have to struggle to stay warm. As mentioned above, both moms need to be trapped and spayed as soon as possible.

One female cat is half indoor cat and half street cat so it will be easy to get her. I will try to trap the other cat to spay her as soon as possible. I will surely bring the litter in.

Please let me know how feeding the kittens goes. If they will not eat the mush yet, you may need to give them KMR with a syringe.

Since their mom comes inside, I suggest you go ahead and get her spay appointment set up for next week. That will ensure that this cat will not have anymore kittens. What are your plans for this litter in a few weeks?

It's not good that you've not seen the other cat in 2 days. [emoji]128533[/emoji]

Can you follow her to see where she goes? It would be great if you could find this litter!

Try to keep the other mom in with her kittens completely now. It may mean setting up a litter box for her.

I think they are in my neighbors backyard which is kinda a problem. The mother does not come inside the house but feeds them outside I tried submitting pictures of them but won't upload.
