Hello,

Wondering if anyone has had this problem and knows of a solution.

I have an 11 year old cat. He has never been very vocal. At one point I had to move so he stayed with a family member for a year. After I got him back he started meowing incessantly. At first I thought maybe it was just adjustment to new surroundings. (I moved to a new place in a different state). He has been with me in the new place for a year now. He meows all the time. Day and night. All of his needs are met and he still continues to meow. It gets very annoying and disruptive. He is not having any physical problems and is always fed adequately. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I can make him stop?

Have you taken him to the vet? This is a known indication of thyroid hyperactivity.

When my Sonny had a UTI a couple months ago in addition to peeing on a chair he also became a lot more vocal.  Sonny is fairly talkative to begin with but the volume and sound of his meow changed.  It felt like he was yelling at me.

I have taken him to the vet and they said he is healthy. Don't think they tested for a thyroid problem though.
I don't believe it's a UTI since it's been going on for a year.

I agree with requesting a full senior blood panel.  My Vet said that its good to have a baseline one; so it wouldn't be a "waste" even if everything turns out to be normal.

Was he vocal with your family members also?

I had a female cat who started meowing excessively at about the age of 12. Turned out she was in renal failure, which took a long time to accurately diagnose because she did not have the typical symptoms of excessive drinking/urinating, weight loss, etc. It was diagnosed via blood panel so I would echo what others have said that blood work may solve the mystery.

Does family member have other pets?
I have had my cat Buddy since he was 5 weeks old (he will be 19 Monday!)He was always part of a multi cat household until 7 years ago. He was always silent until then. Now it just him and me. He talks a lot now. Talks as in communicates. Sometimes it takes a while to translate. After eliminating the obvious (why is this door closed?...cleaning the litter would be a good idea...hey it is 3 a.m. where is my wet food breakfast?...) it usually turns out to be "Attention/petting

I have found that a good combing with a flea comb works great. Removes fur, gives a good scratch (imagine how good THAT feels), and fulfills attention.
All the vet advice is good too.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am going to try taking him back to the vet for more testing.
