My 15 year old cat seems to be breathing harder than usual. I timed it at 40 breathes a minute when he was sleeping. When he's breathing out it seems hard, I can see his chest move more than normal and I can hear it a bit. He's going to the vet in 5 hours. He's eating fine but seems to sleep more. I hope it's not his heart. Is it treatable if it is?

It could be a serious heart condition and if it is it may be treatable for a period of time....let us know whet the vet says.

My regular vet decided to skip the X-rays and send him down the road to the emergency vet for the night. He's in an O2 chamber waiting for an X-ray. They had a lot of animals hit by cars and they were swamped. My regular vet thinks it could be asthma because his heart sounded good but the emergency vet said it could be either. I'm hoping its treatable and that he's doing ok. I'm sitting at home worried sick. I'm cleaning his bedding and water fountain, making it nice and cozy for him when he comes home. He loves a fresh downy smelling comforter!

Fluid around heart and lungs and they found a mass by his liver. His breathing wouldn't level off so tonight at midnight he passed away. Goodbye Smokie.

So very sorry to read this.  On behalf of the TCS team, we offer our condolences.  We'll lock the thread now out of respect for your loss, and invite you to post a tribute to your sweet friend in our Crossing the Bridge Forum.
