I believe my cat is pregnant and is in her first stage of labor. Has been very affectionate, won't leave my sight, made her way into my closet and purring away. She has the large tits but not a big round belly, definitely larger then 2 months ago but mostly hanging. As she walked around following me yesterday there were drops of brownish old blood left on the floor and she would lick them up right away. She is constantly licking herself also. Not large amounts, just drops. Is this normal?

liquidy discharges are normal, and they will often be red colored.  Still, make sure you know the phone number to your vet, and observe closely.

Rub her tummy if she wants and allows.

Have you felt the kittens move?   Has she dropped now?  Your description is somewhat vaguely...

What I find less common is her licking up the traces from the floor.  I suppose its the natural instinct not to attract any predators.  Still, its seldom observed as clearly as you do.

Welcome!

Do you have nest options set up for her? Have you purchased any kitten supplies?

Can you keep her inside and away from all intact males until the kittens have weaned?

I'm just confused on the whole is she pregnant or not. She is 2 and got out begining of March. We noticed her starting to gain weight and her tits became larger and pink so we assumed she was. This would be the week that she would be due. Just noticed some strange actions by her yesterday. Not usually a very loving cat, sweet but not one to sit in my lap. starting yesterday she has been following me everywhere, purring when I touch her, laying on her side all the time and then finding her way into my closet was a first. I just see that most pregnant cats have a huge round belly, mine just looked fat, not huge and round. And now her belly is really hanging low. I have not felt any kittens move. I do not know how to tell if she has dropped. And then the drops of brown blood just started yesterday. She is constantly licking herself all over. So she seems to have all the signs of a pregnant cat in labor???

I have tried to keep her in my bedroom and set up a spot in the closet but she will not stay in there and keeps scratching at the door. She still wants to be with me at all times. None of the panting or excessive meowing yet.

Is it normal to last a couple of days before signs of Active labor begins? The discharge is a lot less today than yesterday. It didn't have me concerned until I kept reading everywhere that discharge is not normal. and then others would say there may be some discharge. So confusing.

Following you around is normal. You just have to be sure to keep her inside.

Some discharge is fine so long as it doesn't have an odor, is not green or black, is not fresh blood and isn't excessive. All cats are a little different. Will she let you rub her belly?

She loves when I pet her. Purrs away. Extremely affectionate. No odor and none of the colors you described.

That's great. Soft belly rubs will help get things going and comfort her. Do you have a photo of momma to be? [emoji]128522[/emoji]

The belly can appear to "drop" before labor begins, the kittens move into position for birth. Did you never see or feel the kittens moving?

No I have never felt them. My husband is a nurse and thinks he has but not me.

Perhaps it's a small litter? Keep us updated when you can and feel free to ask any questions you may have. [emoji]128516[/emoji]

To me it does sound that she's in the first stage of labor. Not during every pregnancy will you feel the kittens move, specially with a first and smaller litter you might not notice them move at all. Make sure to keep an eye on the discharge and as soon as it smells foul to you, run to your vet as she will need immediate care. I don't think that'll happen tho, she will most likely settle eventually and give birth. As she obviously wants you around, try to stick with her whereever she wants so she doesn't become restless. She needs to be at ease as much as possible. This settling behavior might take some days. Has she stopped eating from what you can tell?

She has me running everywhere lol. She loves it best just laying on my bed with me and getting her belly rubbed. Makes me feel better that this could take a couple of days since this is day 2. She has not stopped eating. Not eating a ton but still eating. I have been giving her kitten food and cooked chicken.

Sounds like we're in a similar boat, but my kitty isn't a fan of me touching her belly right now. Fingers crossed for you!
