I think Gracie's in labor! Please help

What did you tell them about the blood?

I told them she's been bleeding for a few hours, that it's bright red, and it's been on and off. When she asked how much I said about a teaspoon or two off and on and that she's cleaning herself up as soon as it appears. They asked if she seemed to be distressed and I explained her behavior exactly and that I did not believe her to be distressed at all.

I think it's more than a few teaspoons, especially if she's been cleaning a lot of it up.

Your cat may be experiencing dystocia, which is when they do not produce strong enough contractions to birth their kittens. It happens in orientals, and your cat appears to be at least part Siamese.

I also believe your cat has experienced a placental separation. The kitten or kittens involved cannot survive this.

If she has not given birth by tomorrow morning, you'll need to take her in to be checked. They will need to perform an ultrasound or x-ray to see if a kitten is stuck in the birth canal, and if there are any live kittens remaining, and if they are ready to be born. They may perform a c-section and spay at this point.

The most important thing at this point is the life of the mom. There is not much else you can do but wait, unless her bleeding increases. If it gets heavier, her life is in danger.

I'm very sorry this is happening to you and your cat.

I will reiterate that the fact these vets think her bleeding is not a problem is very upsetting.

Is your cat eating and drinking at all? if she's losing blood she needs to eat.

Thank you so much for your lengthy response. She is eating and drinking. I do feel a little concerned at this point with the response you gave... She has stopped bleeding last I checked. She is laying on the staircase sleeping. I'm worried at this point. Earlier when I was upstairs with her, my hand was in her belly and it was quite tight. Did not seem to get any less tight.....

A tight belly occurs at the end of pregnancy. It's good if her bleeding has stopped, but it does not mean her kittens are okay. I'm not a vet, so my prognostications could be wrong. However, I do urge you to please take her in for an ultrasound or x-ray first thing tomorrow. It's the only way to get to the bottom of the situation. The bleeding could start again, or labor could start and stop. Something, to my mind, is just not right. Try to get some rest, and please let me know how this plays out. She looks part Persian and part Siamese - very interesting mix, and both breeds are known for having difficult deliveries.

If the previous owner has papers on her, they need to give them to you since you are the new owner. Most breeders do not sell pedigreed cats without spaying them first. Lineage and breeding are strictly controlled, so I'm wondering about that. Person you got her from was also irresponsible to allow her to mate. How old is the cat?
