eye snot

Sorry if this sounds gross or has been asked many times before but I am a newbie and trying to see what is normal. Belle is a 5 month old Scottish straight and gets a small amount of what I can only call eye snot each day. We clean this up without problem but the question is it it normal for the eye snot to be black? I had dogs before and while they did get this goo it was never black

My cat Pushy gets a lot of eye crusties and I have to clean them off every day. His are black while his brother Wiggies are smaller and brown. Pushy has chronic weeping in one eye from herpes, but he's had the eye boogers before any of that started so it's normal for him. I guess each cat is different!

Hades has reddish brown crusties that must be removed from his white face daily. He hates it. Especially since it involves water.
