Just for fun: If cats had a musical soundtrack following them around, what would it sound like? What kind of music would you hear when they're playing? Sleeping? Feeling angry, fighting?

Do certain songs or musical compositions capture your cats' moods or expressions?

And... do your cats respond to music-- does it help them to relax or pique their curiosity? Do your cats listen to music?

Skye says, "I really like Claude Debussy. When I was so sick last spring. Mom played a lot of his works, and it really helped me to relax. My favorites are the Arabesques No. 1 and 2. Arabesque No.1  is perfect for lounging in a sunbeam... while Arabesque No. 2  sets the mood perfectly for a game of mouse-chase or bag-tag, especially when it follows a lovely spot of catnip."

Schrodie says, "I prefer Gershwin, myself. I can never get enough of that Ratspody in Blue."

Um, Meeze-- that's Rhapsody..."

"Uh...oh, well, anyway, It kinda sounds like how I am-- strutting around like Da Baws, running around in a bout of cat crazies, and all like-- aren't I cute? I mean, check out the 4:00 mark. I just went off like a tornado, and now I'm twining around your legs-- and at 6:45 I'm just strutting my stuff because I'm so handsome and I want everyone to know it... see? Now I'm off to pounce and chase Tara and scramble up another wall. Gotta go! "

This sums up perfectly when Tara and Schrodie team up and get into mischief--

Sometimes Schrodie and Skye don't get along too well and they have some rather... 'heated discussions'... sort of like this (my favorite version because of the way the ladies get into character-- too funny!):

Un Duetto Buffo di Due Gatti (Rossini)

Skye: You stole my food, you flea-ridden scratchcoat!

Schrodie: There's two kinds: the quick and the hungry. You should know that, O great warrior!

Skye: Look! Mom's dumping new diggings in our dirtplace!

Schrodie: Where?? Where??

Skye: *swoops in to the plate that Schrodie just left* Hey, thanks, pal-- like you said, there's two kinds: the smart ones... and you.

Schrodie: Why you little...!!

Had to give this one some thought.

Makena, our large male Bengal is a beautiful animal with a very strong "wild" side from his Asian Leopard ancestors.

I believe Makena finds himself caught between two worlds: his friendly and safe social house cat life and the part of him that longs to be free and wild. Helen Jane Long's Porcelain seems a good fit for beauty and longing:

Lilia, our shy little girl Bengal

Lilia is very sweet and playful, but also very easily startled or frightened. Lilia's first owner passed away - I don't suspect she will ever quite get over that - but she is trying. Lucy Kaplansky's Broken Things reminds me of Lilia

When the day came to put our beloved Himalayan, Kepler, to sleep over 10 years ago... this was what was playing on the classical radio station during the drive to the clinic. I can't think of a more suitable farewell. She passed away so smoothly that it was as if Die Walküre  really had come and peacefully taken her straight to Valhalla.
