5 week old kitten with tummy issues

Hi there I'm hoping someone can shed a little insight on an issue my rescued kitten is having. Boo went to the vet today for his first check up and was given an oral dewormer medication. Now he's under weight (only 0.7 lbs) which given where he was when I got him is great. The issue is now he has green colored slightly chunky diarrhea.

He's still on bottle formula (which is working wonders for him) pees fine and is very active. I'm just curious if this green poo is a side effect to the dewormer as this the first time I've had a kitten react like this afterwards. Thoughts?

Give you vet a call and ask them. Most are happy to answer this type of question over the phone.

If it followed right after the de-wormer it's probably from that. If it's green in general he may need other meds for parasites or bacterial infection. Definitely check with your vet. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

So I called the vet this morning and was told green poop was not a side effect of the dewormer. Good thing is at least hes not pooping green anymore, bad is he still has diarrhea. Only now its more yellowy orange and some what mucous like.

I was told it could just be an effect of the new milk he was placed on and I'm hoping so. I set him up with another apt on Friday and till them keeping him hydrated with the new formula and some pedialyte.

What is the new milk, and what is the old milk?

Have you possibility to get goat milk, preferably raw (fresh or frozen)?

You can make your own homemade pedialyte to give as extra.  But they mean possibly injections under the skin  (subcutan)  which is a quick way to help ut dehydration.

The old milk replacement was GNC premium milk replacement enriched formula powder, the new one is same brand but weaning formula.

Your kitten probably needs an antibiotic for a bacterial infection if he has diarrhea with mucus. Good you're seeing the vet Friday.

Probably, his most recent bowel movement had some blood in it though I am thinking its due to irritation from all the diarrhea. I hope he doesn't get worse, just a bad time with money being tight because of rent. :C

It's the formula change.  If you still have the other type, go back.  You don't need to use the weaning formula to wean the kitten.  Other posters have reported problems with the step 2/weaning KMRs.

I'll do that. It was honestly what I was thinking. Thanks for the recommendations everyone.
