Our cat Tigger's water broke about four hours ago, however she is acting completely normal! For a brief moment she spent some time chirping and licking "down there", though she has since stopped. She also refuses to stay in her prepared birthing box, and would much rather play with her siblings. What should I expect?

Is she a young first time mom? Confine her to a room with everything she needs and keep an eye on her. If he water truly broke then kittens are coming soon.

Water can break and it can still be awhile before she goes into full-blown labor. She may already be in stage one labor, which starts slowly, but can take up to 24 hours to get to pushing. She may be awhile. Keep an eye out!

Many cats won't go into their nest until they are delivering. It's instinctual to prevent dirtying it and attracting predators. How is your cat today?

She is about 9 months old; Our neighborhood has a serious stray problem, most of which are males!  No kittens overnight, however this morning she has been pacing and adjusting herself quite frequently.  She is spending much more time in her box than she was last night, which leads me to believe she is close to delivery.  The kittens are very active, and her stomach hangs much lower than it did before!  I also have noticed a small amount of clear discharge coming from her vaginal area, is this normal?

P.S. She seems very lethargic, and won't let her little sister, our 4 month old tabby named Dale, out of her sight!

Her stomach just tensed up while she was sleeping and she let out a muffled whine.  I think we are close!

She is laying in the most awkward and uncomfortable positions as well!  Also, there is no more discharge.  Guess we will just have to play the waiting game! :-)

She is actually from one of our other cat's first liter, (she is now fixed!).  We decided to keep Tigger, as she was the runt of the liter and we instantly fell in love!  We were planning on taking her in to get fixed when she reached 6 months, however this is when she went through her first heat cycle and we didn't want to risk accidentally aborting her babies.  We have a built in doggy-door that leads to our backyard, and we believe that is how she escaped.  We have a fenced in yard, but even that wouldn't stop the strays from visiting us!  I believe the father is this one brown cat that hangs out in our tree during the day, however he seems extremely small and incapable of impregnating our Tigger.

She is also letting out these dramatic sighs every couple minutes, as well as repositioning her massive belly.  What does this mean?

She's uncomfortable.

If you have a major stray issue, toms will always find a way to get to your cats. Is the cat flap blocked off now? She should not be allowed outside at all until she's fixed. Mom can get pregnant again within a week of delivery and without going into heat.

Thanks you guys for all the information!  She is definitely still in the first stage of labor, which explains the constant shifting of positions and rapid breathing.  Will let you guys know when she enters stage two!

It's been about 23 hours since her water broke, and still no sign of contractions!  False alarm?  Help!

I'm not really sure. I've never had a water break that far ahead of kittens coming [emoji]128550[/emoji] I'm sure someone will be along with some wisdom.

It may not have been all her waters. Each kitten is also in a bag of water that breaks when they come through the birth canal during birthing, so they should be okay.

Our cat tigger is finally in labor!!! :-). One concern however, she is having many contractions yet she is not showing any signs of pain or distress. Is this normal? Our other cat (Tigger's mama) yowled during her litter. Help?
