I stuck the duvet in the box and she seemed slightly okay with it, I'd just rather not have her in the rucksack. My husband uses it for his drill weekends with the national guard, so it has all the pockets that kittens can easily get lost in.
She's been really quiet today, had some food and water. She won't lay on her side, either. Since last night she's been kind of perching like the picture.
Nothing yet like contractions, her breathing is a bit more measured and paced, though.
When I go and sit by her she still rolls over so I can rub her belly, so I think she just decided she won't be laying on her side today. Can still feel the kittens moving around, but they're a little lower than they were yesterday.
Still no change in the last few days. This little mama sure as heck is holding out on me.
I do have a question about fleas, though. It seems like they're EVERYWHERE, and I'm concerned for eventual kittens. The landlord in the house we're in now apparently never had a professional cleaning service come in and clean it out, from what our neighbors told us (who also rent from him), he just has other tenants in homes he rents out clean his houses for a portion of the rent taken off, so we think there's an infestation. The weather we've been having hasn't helped any, and Texas fleas seem stubborn.
Bliss and our dog both get flea treatments monthly (and these aren't dog fleas, they're much smaller). I dust both animals with cinnamon every other day, and the dog gets a bath with Dawn soap once a week. I try to spritz Bliss with that Ultra Guard spray bottle, but she's quick to run under the bed. I've tried baking soda, and a carpet treatment I can't remember the name of. The most that's worked is the cinnamon, so I have half a mind to just surround the kittens with cinnamon products.
Oh, dear! The kittens will have flea anemia in no time flat, which can kill them. They only have a tiny amount of blood in their bodies. And I would not rely on cinnamon. I have no idea if it would harm the kittens either, so best not to use it.
Instead, use Advantage II on your cat's neck and your dog's neck. The product is the same for both, so you can buy a package for extra large dogs and use a syringe to pull out the proper dose for each depending on weight. It's more economical this way. You can't put this on the kittens until they are 2 pounds though. And do not bathe tiny kittens!
Then, invest in a can of carpet flea spray, and use it on the floors and furniture. It may
take two rounds, but it works.
Lastly, Raid makes a powerful flea carpet and room spray. It smells to high heavens, but works great. I had to open windows and run my a/c when I used it last spring for an infestation, along with other measures above, but I've been flea free ever since.
And wash all bedding in hot water - yours and your pets!
Try to accomplish this asap before kittens are born.
Currently in the middle of washing everything I can get my hands on in hot water.
Sweep one of the carpet is done, just letting it air out before I go again. I just went with the Raid carpet spray for the bedroom, since it's the only room with carpet and picked up a bug bomb for the rest of the house.
Bliss gets her flea treatment next week, so I'll be sure to switch over to Advantage II! Harley's flea medication is combined with her heartworm chews, so I'm not sure if I can use anything else on her but I'll be calling her vet later today to see if there's anything else I can give her. I had seen a no chemical treatment when I was picking up the KMR that uses natural plants to deter fleas, so maybe that'll be safe for her.
FYI - the spray can be used on hardwood and tile. It's not just for carpets. Strong smell, huh?
I'm glad you're being proactive. Let me know if you're flea free soon.
Pregnant cat should probably not be exposed to the bug bomb.
*** Also, since fleas are bad, it's best to treat your cat at the same time as you treat the apartment, or fleas will jump on her. You do not have to wait until next month.
The smell is crazy strong, I had the bedroom airing out all day and I still smell it! I did read closer at the label and saw that it could be used for hardwood and floors, so I'm going to save the bug bomb and set it off at our new home a few days before we move in. The previous owner never had animals in it (we know for sure cause it was my husband's grandmother, who's still with us and can confirm) but it could have picked something up with all the movers and sending it from one part of the state to the other, so I'm just being sure!!
I haven't seen a flea all day, but I haven't vacuumed under the bed yet so I'll let you know how that goes.
I wouldn't even let her be in the same room while I was spraying! She wasn't to happy to be ferried from room to room, and let me know it. I've got her set up in the bathroom for the night, since she likes sleeping under the bed (that's where I sprayed the heaviest), and the bathroom is the last room I have to do.
Good thing I got the treatment while I was picking up the flea spray. I'll poke it on her now!
The goal is to be moved in by Thursday next week, now that the house is all leveled. All we have to do is have the insurance company come out and look at some walls that cracked during the move, and replace the tile in the kitchen and bathrooms, but that's all things we can do while living there.
However if I recall what our last move was like, we may be here until the end of the month. I had to fight with my husband to get into the current house we're in. I had paid a full two months in advance to get the landlord to hold the home, and we weren't even there the first month. Hopefully it'll be different, since the circumstances aren't the same. He had just come back from Basic and AIT training, so he was still adjusting back into civilian life.
Bliss looking like she's about to pop kind of adds that sense of urgency to get moved in ASAP, before she has these little crotch presents.
