I have now had my new cat, Luna (10 mos old), for 2 days. She seems to have adjusted really well. She is only 10 months old and is very playful and active. However, she doesn't seem to know how to entertain herself. She wants us to constantly play with her with the wand toys and laser pointer, which is fun, but if she's not asleep, she wants us playing with her. Will she learn how to play by herself? We have so many different types of toys and balls, but she's not interested in them. Is there a way I can help her with this? I also worry about when we are gone. Today I am at work so she will be alone for almost 9 hours. What will she do?! Don't get me wrong, I love playing with her and know this is great for her and great bonding for us. However, don't cats also entertain themselves? Any ideas would be so helpful. Thank you!!

She will spend most of her time looking out a window, if you have one accessible to her. If you don't, get a cat tree or perch for the window so she can. She will also play with some of the toys by herself, but she really wants you to play with her. It's a bonding experience for her - you are taking the place of the other kittens in her litter. She will be more affectionate if you play with her often.

You won't have to play with her forever. As she grows older, she will play less, but she will always want some play time with you. Indoor kitties need more play time than outdoor kitties.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. it really depends on the cat. One thing you can do is get her one of those mats with a moving bit inside them, or something motion activated, just to keep her busy when you aren't able to play because she's still so young.

She will play a bit less as she gets older. You'll also find her interests likely change up a bit.
