I did some research online in regards to why felines eat grass which is to throw up the hair balls and other healthy medical reasons.  I just started feeding my two kitties grass from my chemical free lawn and they like it.

The question is, how often should I feed them the grass?  I've also grown my own grass

indoors from these kits that are sold at the big box pet stores and they also sell grass at the checkout counter.  My kitties don't have hair ball issues, surprised, because they are always cleaning themselves and don't want their plumbing to get clogged up which would require a expensive vet trip.

Look

forward to hearing from you.  Have A Awesome Kitty Day

If you have the grass in a little planter box, I suppose you could just leave it out and let them decide when they want it. Honestly, you could probably offer it every day; they'll decide if they need it or not. Some cats just like to play with the grass and don't throw up afterwards. Otherwise, thinking on how often they groom and how much fur they lose, 1-2x/week? Maybe once every two weeks? Depends on if they're long hair, short haired, thin haired... My last cat had a furball maybe every 3-5 months, so I guess it should be in relation to how clogged they get.

Some cats just eat grass because it tastes good
Eating grass doesn't necessarily need to be for hairballs and other issues.

Feeding grass every day is fine but some cats will eat way too much too fast and will throw up. If your cat is one of these types, pull a couple stands of grass and feed each to your cat one at a time. Then put the pot out of reach so your cat can't eat more and throw up. Throwing up grass doesn't hurt a cat but it can be a pain to clean up.

I've started growing grass again as it's Springtime. They love it and run out first thing in the morning to nibble while I get their breakfast. I don't let them eat a lot, it's just there for their stimulation more than anything. It's easy to put it out of reach as I use little pots. I suspect they like standing in it as much as nibbling on it though. They just like the texture of it I guess.
