Hi everyone,

Im new to keeping cats. Just bought a kitten last monday he's 2 months old :)

Im having problems with him as when he is in his room he is perfectly neat and uses the litter box properly. He even learnt how to bury his poop these past few days. When he's cuddling with me i learnt the signs that he is thristy/hungry or needs to poop.

however last wednesday, while he was in the kitchen (a couple of rooms away from his litterbox) he made a poop on a spot on one of my carpets. i cleaned it up with god only knows how many detergents. The day after he retried taking a poop in the exact same spot and i grabbed him and took him to his litterbox. I re-cleaned the area. Tonight about an hour ago as soon as i left him free to roam about he seems to lost control of his bladder and started to drip pee and darted to the same spot on the carpet to pee. i have now cleaned the area and steamed the carpet.

What can i do to stop this behaviour as it is very frustrating that i have to follow him around all day to make sure he doesnt pee or poop around.

thanks guys :)

He's too small to have free range of the house. Until he's older, he needs a litter box in every room he's allowed in. He is too young to remember to look for a box when he needs to go. Is your whole house kitten-proofed? I really think a safe room would be better.

Where he did poop, you need to use an enzyme cleaner so it doesn't smell to him anymore.

Where did you get this kitten?

Hi @seanbugeja and welcome to TCS!
And congratulations on your first kitty.

You really need to clean an area that a cat has weed on with an enzyme cleaner. unless you do that, they will still smell it, no matter how much detergent you use, and will go there again.

I'm a little concerned about the urgency of the weeing.. you need to keep an eye on that as if it happens a lot he'll need to be checked for a UTI (urinary tract infection.. a very common cause of weeing in the wrong place).

I'd also consider having litterboxes in all of the rooms he hangs out in.  You need at least two anyway, as many cats won't wee where they poo..  But if he has free range of the house you need to have boxes not too far from where he is at any time.

Keep us posted!
