Here I go again, obsessing over FIP in the late hours.

But I figured this would be the best place to ask and put an end to one of many searches on the subject...

When my boy was sick with FIP I started him on polyprenal immunostimulant. Yea I know it is really used for dry FIP and Harrison had the wet form. But I was desperate and trying everything under the sun. During my search at the time I did come across a few apparent wet form cases doing well on the PI. But most stories and sites stated only the dry could be treated successfully with it.

That being said, has anyone heard of a wet FIP survival case?

I'm curious because there are so many mixed things on the internet. And claims of survival could easily just be misdiagnosis.

So, thoughts?

There is no survival of FIP period.  I think that if there are people who honestly believe they have a kitty that survived then it was a misdiagnosis.  Unfortunately there is simply no effective treatment.  Even with the dry form treatments are buying some more time with a decent quality of life which is fine if someone has the financial resources to do that.  With the wet form there is no buying time with a good quality of life.  It is a horrible disease and one that is not fully understood as to the why.  Maybe once the why is  fully understood maybe there will be an effective treatment.  I have read they are perfecting a definitive test for FIP.  I see that as a huge step forward.

:yeah: Either that, or they misunderstood and equated feline enteric coronavirus (FECV) with the mutated form, FIP virus (FIPV).

It's possible that a cure will be found in a couple of years, but it doesn't exist yet. This research looks very promising:
A Breakthrough in Treating Cats with FIP. There's a link to the abstract in the article.

Hi HarrisonsHeart !

I disagree......I appreciate this forum immensely - I consider it the best of all feline discussion forums (and far superior to Google's #1 !).....but, when it comes to the intricacies of complicated feline health diseases/conditions, those of us who have been "around the block" have found that the specialized online communities serve us far better. (It's very much like human medicine.....we do not expect our family doctors to be as knowledgeable about specific diseases as we do of medical specialists).

There are specialized online communities for almost every one of the chronic feline diseases/conditions....FIP is no different.

This FIP community has been running since 2002 and has served more than 2500 people and their FIP kitties.........surely, if anyone is going to have answers to your questions, it will be them !

You can find them here: Support and Information for Owners of FIP Cats

I'd advise you to set up a new dedicated email account for the group (they use email as their "operating platform) - for me, that really helps me manage the info flow.

Perhaps, if you join up there, you could also keep the rest of us up-to-date about the very latest in breakthroughs and therapies that the "insiders" are aware of.

I trapped & rescued a feral cat. Set him up in the "holding". He was shy at first & warmed up quickly! He snorted, missing half his tail & hair was thinning, so I knew to get him to the vet. After a month of observation & acclamation, came time to see the vet. Very friendly & hated being alone.
In March, the vet did his examination & it led to xrays! Come to find out his chest cavity was filled with fluid! I was told WET FIP! He had days to weeks to live! I cried hysterically.
To date, it's days from November. My sweet baby is still with us!
His tail filled in & extremely fluffy! His hair is long, thick & full & still GROWING! He grew a main around his neck!
PLEASE!! Can someone explain to me why my baby was diagnosed WET FIP?!?!
Can someone explain what OTHER reasoning he would have fluid in his chest cavity??
I found out he is a designer cat! A Tiffany! More recent name change is Chantilly/Tiffany! He is a mix of Burmese & Persian!
Persians snort!
Do I need to get a second opinion?!?!
Do WET FIP cats live 8 months?? Grow their hair & tail?
Yes, his belly does extend a bit more, but he eats like an ox!! No appitite loss.
Occassional he does throw up in his water, but all fluffy, grooming cat throw up hair balls.
HELP me understand what is going on?
Was he misdiagnosed???

White Shadow,

Got another link to that site. When I click it, it says error & redirects to anything BUT the FIP support site.
