Well... I for one. DO NOT (sorry for writing in all caps there) feel sorry for the seller that she had the bidding ended by Ebay. She could have found other more humane places to sell or give away Sterling other than E-bay. The reasons that she gave for giving away Sterling was lame anyway
. I just wish E-bay wasn't used for these measures.

The seller responded to my email immediately. She said she didn't know it was against ebay policy and asked me how to end the auction early. She also wasn't aware of Petfinder or rescue groups. I sent her a few links to some Yahoo groups, as well as this group to help her out. I think it was truly a mistake and she wanted to correct it immediately.

Hopefully if she comes here, people will help her find a new home for her cat. After all, the cat is what is important here.

It says it ended because the seller ended it early.

The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing.
I don't like the idea of auctioning off a pet either. But I have a question for you guys because it made me think. What do you think about people who adopt a pet by visiting the breeders website and having the pet flown? Or petfinder even. There are orginazations on Petfinder that will fly or ship an animal. Do you see that differently? AGain... I'm not sticking up for people auctioning pets. I'm just curious what others thoughts would be on the subject.

Fuzzmom, Congrats to you. Rather than you getting angry at her you helped her way to go! I hope she comes here so we can give her some friendly advice.

Tammie, are you talking about shipping? I think it's fine not everyone can get the cats they need/want in the area they live.

Yeah, that's part of what I'm asking about. That and what is it that you see different between that and someone who sells a pet on ebay. I'm just curious why that makes us so upset but not the other way. For me, I think it's the actual bidding on a life that bothers me.

Tamme- If You are talking about shipping a cat to place by place..... I think if it is done as correctly and humane and that the cat is comfortable nothing is wrong with the shipping of a cat
.

And regarding the first question about the kind of animal that can be sold on E-bay.... I have no problem with say... Fishes or animals like lizards or geckos being sold.... But it goes over the line when someone tries to sell cats and dogs in an on-line place that is ill-equipped to handle it in the first place. Go to Petfinders or your local humane society if you have to sell or give away Fido or Fluffy... Not E-Bay.

That's a small part of it. But what I'm looking for is what does each of you see different between buying a cat on ebay and having it shipped or buying one on a breeders site and having it shipped. Or even finding your pet on petfinder and having it shipped.

Mzjazz2u, I think the difference lies in the concern for the animal's welfare.Petfinder and the breeders would make sure (hopefully) that the pet goes to the right person and that its transit to the new owner is safe and the least stressful.

Ah Tammie I see what you mean. I definitly don't have a problem with shipping animals but I think you're meaning, what if you ship an animal, and you don't know where it's going to?? Is that more what you mean. I just feel a bit saddened someone would let people "bid" on their pet. If someone contacted us about a kitten, and we organised it , price & air fare etc etc and say it came to $1000, and they sent us the money and we shipped them the cat, wouldn't you know that if someone was going to spend that much on a cat it's going to go to a decent home?? Of course it's much nicer when people come and see the cats at your house and can drive them a short way home but sometimes it's not possible.

Ahh YES! Bravo! This is what I was looking for! That's how I feel too but I wanted to see if that was what everyone else's concerns were. On ebay the cat would just be going to the highest bidder. From a breeder or petfinder, the adopting person would have to interview and fill out an application. So the pet would be going to (hopefully) the best home and not necessarily the highest bidder.

Man, I must speek Greek or something! Sorry for those who didn't understand my question.

Tamme what offended me the most was the starting price on this cat- $10.00! I realize that the bidding would have gone up, but for ethical breeders, it is doubtful that they would sell a quality cat for $10.00. Plus the breeders that I know do take all the precautions they can to be sure the cat is going to the best place possible. I know they network between them with names of people who buy from breeders for harmful intent and that they try and stay on top of all the bad things that might happen to the cat. I think that is the big difference.

WHAT?! $10! Oh gosh, I didn't notice this. Woah now that has me REAL ticked off. How could someone let their precious animal go for $10?

I don't agree with selling live animals on Ebay, but what I found in the ad was this: This is a live animal and I will not ship him. Winning bidder must make arrangements to travel to my home, meet me, and pick him up.

Notice that she is not shipping, the winning bidder must meet her and then pick him up. Who knows if she would have interviewed the person before letting them take the cat but at least her ad didn't sound like she was evil and would just let the cat go that easy.

I also emailed the seller a little while ago. I suggested she contact a no-kill shelter or rescue. I also mentioned that since her cat is so beautiful, he's bound to find a new home, and said selling live animals is against ebay policy.

It was ended up the seller
"The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing. "

I emailed her last night and explained it was against policy and if she needed help finding a home I would be happyy to help her. I have quite a few customers in her state and can send them an email to see if they would be interested in adopting this kitty. He is a beauty and if he was closer, and I didn't have so many already I would take him.

Some times people just really don't know any better, it is better to take the time and explain to them then to get mad.
