Hello everyone! I am very happy to have found this site! With that said, I need some help. I have a pregnant cat ( confirmed by vet) she is around 60 days. Two days ago, this queen was huge, and her belly was puffy on each side. She is a long haired cat. Yesterday and today, she doesn't seem as wide as she was before. Is this normal? She hasn't lost any mucus as of yet- I am like a helicopter cat mom so I would have noticed, probably before her lol- she's not showing any signs of labor. I've read a LOT of articles on here and other sites about pregnant cats. This has me stumped though. My neighbor has a cat and we are pretty sure that they got pregnant at the same time by the same Tom. ( We both plan to get them fixed after this ) Winter ( the neighbor's cat) had her kittens last night in my sons room. She had her outside and didn't want to " come home to a bloody mess" so she was just going to let them be born outside. I didn't have the heart to allow this to happen, so I may have over stepped a tad, but oh well. I noticed when I went out to feed my chikens, that Winter was uncomfortable! VERY uncomfortable... So, i brought her inside where she gave birth to 5 healthy kittens. Could it be that Cali's ( my cat ) kittens have moved into the birth canal?? Thanks in advance for your help guys! I love my Cali and I just know that I am going to be so elated when she has the kittys... I am just  hoping for a healthy delivery.

I'd say it's possible. Once I realized Lizzy had dropped it took about 36 hours for the babies to arrive. Her labor was super quick. I'm glad you didn't let Winter give birth outside!

I'm so sad. I went to sleep last night and I woke up this morning, I always look for Cali when I get up. When I saw her she looked like she had a little blood down there. So i looked closer and there was for sure some blood.  I was rubbing her belly cause I thought she was in labor. Then she went into my closet while I was setting up her little nesting spot I made, I went to find her in the closet and there laid the cutest little kitten, it was all white. It wasn't alive. :( I busted into tears. I have turned my house upside down to see if there are more somewhere. I haven't found any. I know she had to have had more than 1 in there. I could feel them moving on both sides when she was at her biggest. :( I don't know what to do. She isn't taking to anywhere that has kittens. She has only went back to that one spot in the closet. She went outside yesterday. Is it possible that she had them out there and then had a still born this morning before I got up? I'm so upset, All of the preparation and love I already had for those little ones. My heart is breaking. Thank you for the response Krissy... I was sure that she would have them today and everything would be fine....

Oh no. That's so sad. People recommend playing sounds of newborn kittens and seeing what mom does. It's possible that sure is taking a break and only delivered the one. If she doesn't react to the kitten sounds then she may not have had them. Can you call your vet and see what they say?

You should go outside and see if you can hear crying kittens. Can you still feel any babies moving? I'm sorry about the one you lost.

She needs to stay 100% inside. She can get pregnant within a week of delivery and without going into heat. Moms are also likely to deliver outside. Moms who go out bring parasites and illness back to their nests, or may not come back at all.

Thank you guys. I'm so sad :( She just went into my sons room and went behind his dresser in the closet but then she came back out. I can't feel anything in her belly now. She has been eating.. doesn't that mean she's finished? She doesn't look like she's in pain. I am going to go outside and see if I can see anything. I have 4 kids, no matter how many times I told them to make her stay in the house they ( and my husband ) would open the door and let her run out. I would always go find her when I knew she had went outside. ugghghghghgh

Some cats break and eat in the middle of delivery, and some deliver kittens on entirely different days. I wouldn't take that as a bad sign.

Kittens also drop into the birth canal and mom can appear smaller before delivery.

Mom must stay inside. If that means that she has to stay in a room with the door closed, then that may need to be the plan. It's critical.

Ok, that makes me feel better. I played the kitten sound and she went to my closet. I didn't know that they could take breaks that long. I thought that once the labor started she would have all of them. When i helped Winter, she just laid there and had 5 kittens in a few hours. Would she be acting like she's in pain at all? Or would she lay around? She is still laying like she would when she was big. I am a total newbie to pregnant cats. Thank you guys for your help. I'm fighting back tears so my kids don't see me cry.

If labor has stopped for now, she's probably uncomfortable from being pregnant. Can you post some photos?

And how old are the kids? I really think the cat needs to be in her own area without commotion. Kids are a lot for new mamas.

I now have her and my oldest son's room by herself... just me and her actually.. my youngest children are 4 and 2. I have them playing outside right now. So she can have some peace and quiet. She's eating food right now. How long could her labor be paused?

Go ahead and rub her belly, it can help move things along.  The cat is not in labor when she takes a long break between delivering kittens.

I'm starting to feel like she doesn't Have anymore. She's just laying around licking her paws and scratching her head... I'm nervous for her cause I'm sure there were more than one... Besides rubbing her belly, is there anything else I can do to help her along?

Did she have an xray done? Or anything to make you believe she had more? Have you called your vet and asked what they think is best?

No xray just feeling more than one moving on each side. And he felt her belly when he confirmed the pregnancy and said she had at the very least 4... I have left a message for them to call me back... :(

An x-ray or ultrasound will confirm if she still has kittens inside her or not. I'm so sorry about the stillborn. I can understand why you're upset.
