Throwing up only sometimes

When my Tabby Calico threw up alot the first time, about 8 years ago, I took her to her vet.  They did an xray and said they possibly saw an obstruction, and suggested surgery.  I immediatlely declined because I cannot afford that.  They then gave me something calle Laxaire to help move through whatever it was.  It seemed to work, so I was relieved. But now for the past couple of years, she throws up, but not all the time like before. She 'sometimes' throws up just after she eats(wet food) in the morning, within seconds. I took it as her telling me she doesn't like what I gave her, or that flavor didn't agree with her. Like I said, it only happens occasionally just after she eats. And sometimes she will throw up before she eats, but that is when I have cat grass for her sitting in the living room. That throw up is always only green and grassy, whereas the throw up after she eats is everything she just swallowed. Otherwise, she shows no symptoms of anything to make me think she is unhealthy.  She has been an indoor cat her whole life, and kind of fat/overweight .  If anyone has any feedback, it would be greatly appreciated! 

I just realized something too.  She will throw up the wet food that has gravy in it.  But after that, when she continues finishing the we food throughout the morning, she does not throw up anymore.  Could the gravy/juices have something to do with triggering a throwing up mechanism? Or maybe is she eating too fast initially?

...the gravy is gone after her initial feeding where she throws up.  There is no more in the rest of her dish throughout the morning, only the chunks of food.

Have you tried giving her hairball remedy regularly? Do you know if she is throwing up or is she trying to cough up hair balls?

She is throwing up.  After talking to my good friend, a real cat finatic herself, I think I just give her too much to eat first thing in the morning.  I give her half a regular sized can of wet food, and I think she may eat it too fast.  She doesn't do it the following day with the second half, because she doesn't wolf it down like the first half.  The first half is fresh, and the second half is refrigerated.  She never throws up with her dry food.

Just this morning, she threw up while walking away from eating her food.  She has a bit of dry food in her bowl overnight, but she knows when her feeding time is. She wakes me up to feed her.  Sometimes if I sleep in, she will eat her cat grass(when I have it) and throw that right up. But that is what the grass if for, right?

Have you recently opened a new bag of food or changed varieties?  It could be that she can't tolerate the new variety or they manufacturer has changed the formula or supplier of one of the ingredients.  I had a cat who would throw up every time she had any fish flavored food.  It took me a long time to figure that out!  Try a novel protein, just one meat ingredient like turkey or chicken and see if she calms down and stops throwing up.

I am going to try giving her less wet food for her first morning meal.  I really think she is just eating too much...too fast.
