Hello,

My cat has having a vomit issue lately. So 2 days ago, my cat threw up during night time after he ate the dry food. My cat used to have a problem of eating too much in quick speed so I usually see something like this once every month or so. (Yes, I followed various instruction to slow down but once awhile, it still happens). Anyway, he used to throw up immediately (less than 5 minutes) after he ate but at that time, he threw up a little longer (maybe after 10-20 minutes) he ate. Also this time, it smelled really bad (it used to smell nothing serious but dry food smell).

Then yesterday morning, I gave him a wet food just as usual. Same food, same time. I wanted to slow down so after few bites of wet food, I took the bowl out to give him a time to chew and after few seconds, give it to him again and so on. It seemed fine, but after 20 minutes, he threw up again! This time, it did not smell, just as before (dry food smell). Few hours later, he seemed find, eating normally and also keep wanting food. Later of that day, I gave him a dinner again. This time, nothing happened.

Then today morning again, he happened! Same as yesterday...after he ate, he seemed like he wanted to throw up something...like he went to the different area, sit down and made a posture like he want to throw up and after 10-20 minutes, he threw up again. In there, it consisted of wet food he just ate and also dry food kibble (not chewed...but original shape).

I will definitely check it out vet later but after reading many forums about vomit issue, I cannot tell if this is somewhat a health issue I need to concern about or his trait of eating fast. I mean every dinner (when I offer him another wet food), I have no issue. I don't want to go to the vet if this is just eat too much in quick speed issue.

Thank you so much

I would suggest removing all dry food for the time being, since it came up in whole pieces mixed with the wet food.  Dry food is only 8% moisture and wet food is more like 78% moisture, and the dry food when it gets wet can swell up significantly, which means the stomach is fuller than the cat expected, so they vomit.  If he has only wet food, and does not vomit, then you can suspect the dry food is the problem, whether it is just the swelling or if there is actually a problem with this bag of food.  Also, be sure to check out whatever dry food you have been feeding to see if there are recent complaints about problems with it.  Each bag of dry food you open constitutes a "new" food because it is a different batch, and sometimes problems are with one batch of a certain food.  You can't assume that because the cat has always eaten that brand and flavor that it is the same, because it isn't. If other people are having problems with vomiting and are using the same dry food as you, there could be a problem with the food.
