Lovely pictures. It's so nice to see them all growing up. Little Bee is just adorable.

Is Blossom a good girl when you clean her eyes? One of my rescues is FIV+ and has herpes. I have a solution to clean her eyes with and drops for whenever she has a flare-up, but it's a daily battle to keep her eyes clean. I used to be able to "Burrito" her, but she knows what it means when she sees me coming with a towel now. She doesn't have any teeth, but she has claws and she's not afraid to use them!

I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that she is going to have permanent tear stains. Any tips for cleaning cat's eyes?
Blossom didn't really like it, but kittens tend to like being "groomed" better than adults, probably because that is what their mother does. I use a damp cloth and just wipe their eyes. If they are still messy I rub a little, then make sure it is dry enough that they won't get sores from the constantly wet skin. Trimming the hair under the eyes is what we do for our dogs with runny eyes, it helps to keep them cleaner even if it can look a little weird.

She may not know it, but you are doing a great thing for her.  : )

We've got around 40 cats at the shelter (and in foster homes) right now but thankfully, most of them are healthy, friendly, and many are ready for adoption! It was a long struggle to get past some of the respiratory issues in some of the young kittens, but major improvement has been made. One of these cases is Fred! The little guy is now up for adoption and everyone loves him!  : )

Once shy and fearful, Prissie is in the cat room enjoying herself as she waits for the right family. In the light you can see how gorgeous her dark black is constrasting with the orange.

Rags is still with us, the poor big guy. He is doing well, but his large size and unique personality have made it hard to find the perfect fit for him. He's a good dude though, and I'm sure he'll find his forever home eventually.

Prissie again.

... and getting love

Rags enjoying getting some pettings. He likes to do things on his terms, but if you watch him and listen to his cues, you can start to understand when he wants attention and when he doesn't.

Pearl is up for adoption in the cat room right now. Sweet and doing well, she is the only cat Rags seems to like. He was following her around and licking her ears. I think the big guy is in love, even if he is twice her size.  : )

Rags with Pearl.

Still out-of-it after being fixed, this dude here is Lewis, a blue and white kitten who came in with a few of his siblings to be neutered/spayed.

Cash, Ollie and Kai got neutered today and will be up for adoption soon. I got to hold Kai as he was put-under so he wouldn't be so afraid. Hopefully they heal quickly and find awesome homes where they are happy and not missing me or their siblings.

Lewis with his sister, Layla. They got brought home today, I think by the person who brought them in. Perhaps she is keeping a few of the litter.

Just waking up, this is Leon and Leah.

Lilac and Cleo (I think more of the litter from above) chilling out together in their enclosure. These guys are pretty big, which is good for them when they are fixed (4 lbs is healthier then 2) but means less fit per enclosure. Thankfully they can still have a sibling with them to keep them company.

Cuddled up together are Sara and Tyler, two tabby and white kittens that were recently fixed as well. Seems like a lot of 8-14 week old kittens have been coming in lately. This is a good thing, it means they are healthy and can be put up for adoption right away. However, it does mean more competition for my babies in getting adopted.

Huck and Sticky, around 6 weeks old. Their sister, the black kitten, is in the back. Her name is Petunia. They are in a foster home for a week or two until they are ready to be neutered/spayed as well.

Petunia

Leon I think.

Possibly Leah? She looks to be the same color.

Waking up, here is Layla and Lewis.

I'm baby-sitting these foster kittens over the week-end. This little dude is Banjo, he is around two weeks old.

The calico girl is more like 3-4 weeks old and is called Spoons.

Also at the shelter we have Nutmeg, Ebony, Fred, Peggy, Shrimpi, Pugsly, Aida, Walinda, Blossom and Bubbles (spayed and up for adoption), Newton, Steve, Paws, Cougar and Ginseng. Rambo was adopted!!

At Petsmart are Rowan, Crumpet, Muffin, Minion and Draco.

In foster we have Bee, Tesla, Trouble, Moo, Mr. Cool, Lyla, Nocturne, Twilight, Ozzie, Hermoine, Geeny and Beatrix.

Rags sounds a bit like some of my rescues. I think he'd fit right in here. Wouldn't it be great if Rags and Pearl were adopted together?

Vibes for some perfect new homes for all of them.

He went to Petsmart today with his sister to look for their forever home. I'm sure he'll get picked-out quickly.  : )

My trio of foster boys, Ollie, Kai and Cash, also went there. Rowan, Minion and Draco came back since the whole place was filled with our shelter's cats and another shelter's cats. Lots of kittens reaching adopting age right now as those born during th beginning of Kitten Season start growing up.

Update photos! Here at UCHS, there are a lot of kittens coming of age for adoption as well as a number of adults looking for their forever homes. I love knowing we are making a difference every time we help to feed them, clean a cage, give some cuddles or foster them. Each animal you make happier is changing a life, even if it is just one little cats life.

Tesla, Bee and Trouble are now at the shelter waiting to be fixed and put up for adoption. Here is Tesla at our house, trying to bury her food after she completed eating it.  : )

Fred is up for adoption and eager for someone to play with.

Ebony is getting past his issues with diarrhea still but is very hyper and active, just loves to play and run around.  : )

Paws being a totally sweet-boy, as always. He likes to try to slip out of his cage so he can get cuddles with me.

Shrimpi is still available. This sweet little girl is a perfect pet, I hope someone chooses her soon.

Pugsley, peering into the sunlight. He's a sweetie too and is in the Cat Room with Shrimpi.

Lyla in her new home (my closet) with her trio of kitties. They want to try eating her food, but they haven't quite gotten the hang of that yet.

Twilight and Oz kept their gorgeous roan blue coats with dark points. Hopefully they will stay as velvety soft as they are right now, people will come running to adopt them if that is the case. I've never felt such a soft kitten in my life (and I've held a lot of kittens).

Woody the kitten.

Aida was finally adopted! Yay!!

Nocturne compared to his siblings in color. He still has silver tipping on his coat, but he isn't the "roan" color they are.

Nocturne screams for cuddles so I give them to him. And boy does he love them! So sweet! He rolls on his back and asks for tummy rubs. His little ears sort of curve down at the tip and his eyes are so HUGE! He's my favorite right now (not that I should have favorites, but sometimes you can't help it).  : )

The kitties were wormed for the first time yesterday and Lyla was vaccinated. They are making great progress and starting to use the litter box (though missing sometimes). This is Oz, the darker of the two roan kittens.

My new trio of foster cats, all of them girls. Narcissa is the dark tabby (hard to see, sorry about that), Genny is the lighter brown tabby and the black, grey and white kittie is little Bellatrix (Bella for short).

Caicos and Dominica were spayed today. They didn't enjoy the process much, but soon they will be able to find loving, forever homes.

Aruba is a gorgeous little spotted tabby and white. She is sweet, enjoys being held, and curious (what kitten isn't?).

Woody again, showing off his red tabby coat and big ears.

A new kitten, this little guy is a longhaired orange cat with tabby markings showing through. He might not look great in this picture, but he was just sleepy, he seem pretty healthy actually.

Lilac asking for some love.

Aruba in another cage while I clean hers.

A very strange picture of Tesla. It shows her dark colored nose and the curls in the fur on her neck (the place she finds hard to groom). She's a sweetie, but her behavior is certainly that of a kitten that grew up the first 4-6 weeks in the outdoors. She is the best at climbing and balance of all six foster babies.

Little Nocturne and Oz (I believe) when they were just two or three weeks old. This shows their progress in growth.

Lyla, showing where her kittens got their white locket on their chest (and white button on the belly too). She is starting to gain weight and seems to be doing well.

Nocturne playing with Oz.

Oz saying hello.

The trio nursing from their mother. It's hard for them all to fit now. you can see that Twilight has a tint of rose-brown in his coat that isn't as strong in Oz's. Nocturne also has this brown color shining through in the bright light.

Rags, Pearl, Tyler and Sara are also in the cat room, waiting their turn for adoption.

Peggy and Minion got put back into quarantine to get past any issues they may have before going up or adoption again.

Steve remains in quarantine as well as he gets past his health issues and waits to go up for adoption.

Crumpet, Muffin, Kai, Leah, Leon, Rowan, Walinda, Newton and Nutmeg are also up for adoption, some of them in the lobby, others at Petsmart. I'm pretty sure that Ollie and Cash have been adopted, along with all the calico kitties.

Banjo, Spoons, Sticky, Huck, Petunia, Moo and Mr. Cool remain in foster homes, though both Mr. Cool and Moo are in good situations and practically adopted. Ginseng is still in boarding.

Cougar continues to get better from his injuries and will hopefully get his chance to go up for adoption soon, along with Paws.

Update on the cats at our shelter.   : )

It's that time of year when the shelters and rescues are all flooded all over the country. Many are full, others are reaching that point. Here in Ohio our shelter is actually doing pretty well compared to some, but we still have around 38 cats and 34 dogs as well as a rabbit (named Daisy).

Fostering deffinently helps as far as opening up spaces at shelters, as well as getting to know the individual animal and what they like and dislike. We've got seven foster kitties right now, and a number of others are being fostered by other families. Also, some of the adoptable cats and kittens go to Petsmart to find their forever homes. The adult cats that get along with one another can go in the cat room while the adoptable kittens are in the lobby, greeting any new people who come to visit. Those waiting to pass their health-exam are in the quarantine area, which we call "ISO" for Isolation. However, that doesn't mean the are isolated from people or from other cats (they are often kept with siblings) it just means they are kept away from the healthy cats or people who may not have washed their hands.

This is one of our foster kittens. She is six to seven weeks of age and came in a few weeks ago with her two sisters. Her name is Bellatrix but I call her Bella (my brother calls her Trix). My brother has been helping me with these three as they stay in his room. Lyla and her three kitties are in my room.

Narcissa (Sissy or Nar) is the sweetest of the three "Harry Potter" kittens. She will go completely limp of turned on her back in your hand and is soft, sweet, and quiet. Her sister. Genny (Gen) is the little trouble maker, full of energy and the largest of the group.

Spoons and Banjo snuggled together. They spend some days in the shelter while their foster mother works there, then go home with her at night. Spoons is starting to eat from a dish now, thank goodness.  : )

Ginseng remains in boarding.

Cougar, the cat with half of his right front leg, is healing up from the injury to his face. He is as sweet and chill as ever.

Slightly uncertain about his new situation, Kip is an adult cat that has been brought in, along with a few other adults, to have his chance to be put up for adoption.

Mittens is another one of those cats, and seems to be the least shy.

The most shy of the bunch, Mr. Peabody is orange and has wide orange eyes. I'm sure he'll settle down just like Prissie and Stachey did. Cats get more comfortable once the get a chance to get into the Cat Room.

Minion is getting over a cold he has in the back before being put up for adoption again. He is getting better and seems to be relaxing again after his time spent at Petsmart.

Muffin and Crumpet, the two sister kittens, also came back from Petsmart and are in the lobby, up for adoption.

Leah, sleeping in the sink in the cat room.

Rags saying hello to me. He is such a big, silly boy.  : )

Prissie resting by the window.

Pugsly stretching in his favorite sleeping place, an open crate with a blanket and some toys.

Leah's brother, Leon, up in the cat "tree house" waking up to say "howdy".

Rags with Pearl, his girl-friend.

Steve is growing, somewhat slowly, but at least he is getting better from his cold. He was having trouble shaking it. Now he looks better and is still very cute!

Some updates:::

Lyla, Nocturne, Oz, Twilight, Gen, Sissy and Bella remain in foster with me and my family. Lyla's kittens are active, playful and finally starting to leave their closet, which convinced Lyla to do the same. She is still too thin, but her coat and muscles are in much better condition.

Other kittens in other foster homes include Banjo, Spoons, Sticky, Huck, Petunia, and the adult cats Moo, Mr. Cool, Rags, Minion and Paws.

Cats up for adoption in the Cat room are Shrimpi, Ebony (the kitten), Prissie, Pugsly and Pearl. In the lobby are some younger kittens available for adoption, including my little babies Bee, Trouble and Tesla, Fred, Rowan, Crumpet and Muffin, and then Nutmeg.

Cats going through quarantine include Mittens, Lilac, Woody, Mr. Peabody, Kip, Peggy, Steve, and Cougar. Ginseng remains in boarding.

Last but not least, at Petsmart there is Tyler, Sara, Walinda, Dominica, Caicos, Aruba and Phelps.

It must be lively at your house with all those kittens.

Doesn't Rags miss his girlfriend? Does he have any other friends as well as Pearl?

Rags actually went into a program that involves prison inmates near by our shelter. They take in cats that have trouble getting adopted or that are FIV positive, such as Paws. They also have three dogs there, including an older lab girl who deserved a nice retirement (her name is Katia). Fencer came from there as well.

We've got a new cat in town. I'm not even sure if its a boy or a girl, and I don't know his name, but he is just so sweet and gorgeous I couldn't help but fall in love. This little silver-white colored kitty is shaped like he is part Siamese with brilliant blue eyes and a wedge-shaped face.   : )

This picture makes him look sick, but really he isn't, he was just waking up. He had some fleas and his poor little paw-pads were sore, likely from walking on a hard surface like the road (where he was found) but he is otherwise is pretty good shape!

Oh, and a quick picture of Steve to show how much progress he's made. Yay Stevie!

Up-date photo time.  : )

Adoptions have been fairly slow at the shelter as far as cats are concerned, but many of the cats are healthy, of proper age for adoption, and nice colors, which are all in their favor for finding a good home quickly. However, that isn't to say that the older, more "plain" colored cats aren't amazing pets too. I certainly hope all those cats find awesome forever homes as well.

Ariana is a black and white female cat with orange eyes. She is a gorgeous, healthy girl, but she does have some hissing problems, just like her two sisters.

Tazmania, Ariana's sister. She has some nice black spots on her (almost like a dalmatian) and a fully black tail. She's a beautiful girl, but also likes to hiss a lot.

Daisy the rabbit, in the hallway outside the Cat Room, is still up for adoption as well.

Shrimpi is still here. She was posted on Facebook as cat of the month I think it was (maybe week) but wasn't adopted yet. She seems pretty content here though, which is nice. She gets along with the other cats and is healthy and friendly.

Prissie in front of the window. She's a sweetie, seems to enjoy getting petted (at least when she wants it, that is).

Pugsly is a handsome boy, makes me think of a jaguar with how dark and bold his spots and stripes are on his body.

Pearl is a sweet, talkative girl, just like her brother. Paws is in a foster program with Rags and Minion (Paws is FIV positive, so this is good for him). Pearl is healthy though and in the cat room.

Kip is in the cat ISO room (where they are quarantined) for some diarrhea and sneezing issues (as you can see on the notes on his card). However, he seems to be doing better and is a very handsome grey color with green eyes (I love green eyes in cats).

Oh, and for all wondering, my foster baby is a girl!! Nocturne isn't the only sister in the family though, Twilight and Ozzie are both girls as well. That makes seven foster cats that are all females in this house. The poor vets are going to have fun fixing them.... Not.

Girl cats are more complicated a surgery that's for sure.

But hey, Nocturne is cuddling with me at this very moment and is the sweetest cat I've ever met so I can't complain.

Nox (as I call her), resting while I watch a movie.

Twilight is still light colored but Oz has darkened to be almost as black as her mother. Both are getting treated for eye infections.

Ty (as I call her for short), investigating. In this picture she is younger, but right now she is about 7 weeks old.

Ebony got to spend a few days in the cat room, but got sick. However, he is over that and hopefully will be adopted soon. He's such a cute, sweet little guy (actually, he's not so little anymore. He's growing up to be a big dude).

Cougar is up for adoption in the lobby. I think his missing leg makes him nervous about being in the cat room or other open spaces like the Conference room (where Aida stayed before she was adopted).

Narcissa, one of our foster babies. She is 8 weeks old now but she and her sisters don't weigh enough to be adopted yet.

Another picture of Pearl.

Peggy, Mr. Peabody, Mittens, Sybil, Carreen, Steve, Trouble, Rowan, Echo, Skeeter, Fiddle, Huck, Sticky, Petunia, and Lilac are some of the other cats still with us. Ginseng has come out of boarding and is now up for adoption! The pretty girl has been here quite long enough and deserves her own home now.

Mr. Cool, Lyla and her three girls, Narciss's sisters (Genny and Bellatrix), Banjo and Spoons are all still in foster right now.

Sadly MoonShine (the siamese mix kitten) passed away from severe diarrhea a few days after being brought in. At least he had a comfortable home and was well loved his last few days. RIP Moon Shine.

Thank you for the update and all the lovely photos.

Poor Moonshine, at least he spent his last few days somewhere warm and comfortable.

Your foster kitten Nocturne has got the most amazing eyes! Kip looks a lot like my avatar cat, Gin kun. Gin kun is missing at the moment, managed to charge out of the door as I was coming in with an armful of groceries. He's a former feral so knows how to take care of himself. I'm hoping he gets tired of hunting and comes back soon.

Thanks.  : )

I heard about Gin kun. I sure hope he comes back soon. We've had our cats leave for a long while before returning, sometimes just because they found a good source of food or something such as that. One of our Barn Cats left for a little while because her daughter got pregnant (before being fixed) and pregnant daughters apparently don't get along with their mother... at all. They still argue years later, even though they are both spayed. Guess that's just girl cats for you.

It seems kittens enjoy being weighed. At least ours do. They play, sit, cuddle and just chill in the bowl set on top of the scale, whether they need to be weighed or not.  : )

Ozzie.

Ozzie with her mother, Lyla.

The trio.

Narcissa and Bellatrix.

Just Narcissa

Bella eating some of her "baby bits".

Bella again.

The best picture I have of Genny (she doesn't stop moving and playing the silly girl).

Narcissa in the laundry basket.

Sybil and Ariana after being spayed.

Ariana and Tazmania, showing off their van patterning.

Tazmania.

Echo, still out of it after being spayed. She is now up for adoption!

Petunia (black) and her brother, Huck. Sticky is the black and white male in the back-round.

Mr. Peabody.

Shrimpi saying "hello".

Pugsly.

Update pictures:::: We've had a few adoptions, as well as some kitties coming of age and getting to go up for adoption. Lilac, Pugsly, and Bee (confirmed) have all found their families. Hopefully the others will join them soon. Cats now up for adoption include Mr. Peabody and hopefully soon Bella, Sissy and Gen.

Ariana and her sisters are up for adoption at Petsmart now! Seems they are doing better with people and ready for their forever homes!

Echo and Skeeter are up for adoption! Hopefully they'll find their homes soon.  : )

Clarence doesn't look the best in this photo, but that's just because its hard to get good pictures of cats without them moving and meowing and rubbing against you. He's doing well and hopefully will be neutered soon so he can be adopted.

Poor Peggy doesn't do well with other cats, which makes it hard to get her a good home because she can't be in the Cat Room with the others. However, she is an awesome girl and will hopefully be adopted soon.

Mittens is on meds for congestion and sneezing and will hopefully be able to be adopted soon.

Skye (the only picture I have of him) is as Petsmarts searching for his forever family!

Ginseng is up for adoption! She gets the Conference Room all to herself.

Mr. Peabody is in the cat room! Awesome job you funny looking big guy.  : )

Shrimpi is still available.

Prissie, Trouble (my boy), Rowan, Leah, Leon, Nutmeg and Muffin are available at the shelter as well. Mr. Cool, Domino, Lyla, Oziana, Nocturne, Twilight, Banjo, Spoons and two new kittens are in foster. Tesla and Sticky are pending adoption. Paws, Rags and Minion are part of a program we have with our local Prison.

Waiting to get past a cold or be fixed are Pearl, Steve, Ebony, Woody, Kip, Fiddle, Forrester, Cougar (he doesn't do well in the cat room because of his missing leg), and then there is a girl who found her home (going to live with a friend of her owner, who passed away) but is being held a couple days. Carreen and Stuart are already there and she will be joining them.
