The cats at the shelter are continuing to do well, even though we are getting many drop-offs (including dogs, since a near-by shelter closed down and we agreed to take their strays). Nearly all our dog kennels are full but actually most of our Cat Quarantine cages are empty and the cats are either at the pet-store we work with or in the cat room. The few not there are either in the Lobby because they don't get along with other cats or else too young or ill to be put up for adoption.

Fred remains in the quarantine of the Surgery room while he gets over the very heavy coccidia load he was treated for. He is lively, playful with large, bright eyes and a good appetite.

Domino and Mac made such a great recovery they are now up for adoption at the pet-store, even though just a few days ago Domino could barely stand.

Ebony remains in quarantine, Dusky is sick and getting intensive care. Their mother, Mumsy, is at Petsmart waiting her turn for a forever home. She is small and very friendly and caring so I'm sure she'll go quickly.

Moo, the over-weight black and white female cat that came in a few months ago, remains in foster as she works towards getting better.

Naomi is adoption pending at the shelter while Nutmeg, her sister, is at the pet-store. Aida and Rags are in the lobby waiting their turn while Rupert is in the back being assisted in fighting off a cold he got.

Ginsang remains in boarding but seems to have calmed down some since she first arrived, not as grouchy as she was in the past.

In the cat room we've got Memo, Shrimpi, London, Thompson, Bailey and Peggy. In the ISO (cat isolation room) we've got Fencer, Rowan, Newton, Ash, and Walinda. Walinda is a fearful stray kitten who came in from Wal-mart (hints the name) and Rowan is also a new stray girl, blue in color with gorgeous large eyes. She is around the same age and size as Walinda and hopefully they can be put together when deemed healthy to help calm down the semi-frantic Wali.

At Petsmart we've got Nash, Ajax, Weasley, Domino, Nutmeg, Vader (who apparently wasn't adopted), Sirius, Zeke, Mac and Mumsy.

Huey, a new cat that was dropped off as a neutered adult, friendly and of good weight and health with front claws removed, either got returned to his owner or put up for adoption right away because he wasn't in quarantine yesterday when I was at the shelter.

Adele, a calico female who apparently came in yesterday, had a microchip and was returned safely to her owner. YAY!!!! The staff at the shelter said this is very rare and usually no one comes in to claim the cats.

Anyways, on to the photos:

Fred, showing off his healthy eyes and playful personality. The picture quality might not be great, but he is actually a healthy dude, he just won't sit still well.  : )

Dusky and Ebony on quarantine after getting sick. Ebony is the healthier of the two but Dusky has to go home and be fostered each evening to watch him for signs of getting worse.

My foster kittens on their first vet-check trip to the shelter. They got their wormers and weighed but were deemed otherwise very healthy and not needing another check-up for a few weeks when vaccinations will be given.

Huey when he first came in. He wasn't so sure about the place at first, but was more nervous then frightened, obviously he was use to humans.

Rupert is sick and in quarantine right now but hopefully with some TLC he'll get better and be put back-up for adoption. The poor shy, sweet guy needs a home. He's been with us forever.

Memo looking out at the picturesque world.

Thompson meandering.

Bailey excited for a visitor stretches as she rubs up against the railing on the giant cat tree, asking for some attention.

Little Domino, feeling much better and investigating his surroundings.

Mac, playing with Domino's tail.

Rowan, uncertain about her situation.

She didn't like me reaching into her cage but doesn't seem to be feral, just shy and not well accustomed to strangers.

Domino and Mac chilling together in their litter box. I got them a blanket to cuddle up on so they wouldn't have to do that, but sometimes they just choose the litter box because they like it better then any bed you could give them. That's a cat for you. We actually give Rupert two litter boxes so he can sleep in one and toilet in the other.

The new kitten, Walinda. I had to move her with a towel so she wouldn't scratch or bite me, but she seems willing to greet people she knows, she just doesn't like strangers. And wow, her voice when she meows is deeper then a tom-cats! She sounds like a person calling for help, its kind of frightening to hear that echo around the shelter while you're trying to do work.

I'll keep you all updated on their progress. Have a good day!  : )

Oh, and consider adopting a cat too.  ; )

Thank you for the update.

Mac and Domino look so much better. It's great that your shelter has managed to find homes for so many of them.

I'd love to adopt another cat, but I'm up to 23 now.......

Awesome! We only have six not including the foster cats. I'll have to work on that.

CAT TIP::::

If you want to adopt from a shelter, there are some things to keep in mind about the cats there.

1: Don't handle or pet a cat or kitten unless a staff member says you can or a sign otherwise specifies. Cat rooms often allow you to do just that and are a great place to get some cuddles.

2: Wash your hands between handling cats or kittens from different rooms or enclosures, older cats may be immune to diseases that kittens can catch.

3: Make sure you do not bring any diseases your own cats or a friends cat may have; change your clothes and wash your hands before going to the shelter.

4: Don't try to force interaction with a cat. The best way to win a cat over is to sit down and let them come to you. They are often eager for some affection and play-time.

5: Cats will be cats, and sometimes they aren't interested in being handled. Some cats nip or scratch just because they are tired or not in the mood. If you are interested in a cat and it seems grumpy, give it some time before giving up on it. Let it rest and have some alone-time and try again later. Sweet, friendly cats can have off-days sometimes.

6: Do not feed cats unless a staff member say you can. Some cats are on specialized diets or have allergies to certain ingredients in regular cat food.

7: Just as you washed your hands between handling cats, don't bring a toy from one enclosure to another unless a staff member says it is safe to do so. Toys can carry sickness as well. Again, adult cats often are immune to diseases that younger cats still have not been introduced to and could get sick from.

I hope this helps you and the cats alike. There are so many sweet, wonderful cats of so much amazing variety and sweet, playful personalities. They'll be neutered/spayed (at least at a respectable shelter), fully vetted (vaccinations, worming, ect), and handled often enough that they are use to people and tested around other cats and sometimes birds, dogs, and other pets.

This weeks update photos and stories. Be prepared for an amazing surprise in my second post (suspenseful music playing).  : )

But first, an update on adopted cats. Not only have Bailey and Naomi found new homes, but Thompson was added to the list as well. Aida and Rags remain up for adoption in the lobby and Memo, Shrimpi, London and Peggy remain in the Cat room. I'm pretty sure that Mumsy and Weasley were also adopted, since they are no longer on the list of cats at Petsmart. Vader, Sirius, Zeke, Nutmeg and Ajax remain on that list.

Sadly, Dusky (the sibling of Ash and Ebony) passed away from his sickness while in the caring home of one of the staff members. He was given wonderful care and a geat life, but it just goes to show how important kitten quarantine can be until they have a strong immune system. That is why I'm so glad my kittens are somewhere they are very unlikely to get any viral or bacterial infections.

Ebony and Ash are fighting off their own version of the sickness well though and are almost ready for adoption.

This here is Newton, one of the adoptable male kittens who got sick and so was brought back for quarantine and treatment. He is being kept with Ash, who is so full of energy he keeps picking on this poor dude. I don't think Newton has Ash's sense of humor.  : )

Bubba the ferret (or at least his tail). He got a larger cage with a litter box and hammock and will hopefully continue to feel better until he is ready for adoption.

Ash being his silly playful self. he Kept messing up the newspaper in his cage rolling around.

Some of the six new kittens that just arrived yesterday. Four are calico girls and two are black and white boys. They look to be around 4-6 weeks old, possibly small because of malnutrition. However, they are in good hands. The cage looks wet in this picture because they were playing in their water dish.

Two more of the six new kittens. Calicos are so pretty, I'm sure they'll be adopted out fast.

Domino, resting on a comfortable towel.

Ash being a silly boy.  : )

A surrender, this here is Lazy Bones, an anything but lazy female cat. She came in possibly pregnant, but she doesn't look pregnant so plans were made to see if she was and then spay her.

Rowan, still in quarantine but much more relaxed and playful then before. Her eyes look misty but she seems to see just fine.

Walinda, feeling better and getting over her fearful aggression. She seems to like people, but only certain people, and is a little hissy around those she doesn't know.

No, this kitten is not as terrible looking as this picture shows. This little guy was the sick one of the group of six that came in, but the kittens often stick their face in the wet food while learning to eat it, hints why he looks so dirty. Again, not a great picture, but the only one I had. We gave him a hot-pad to sit on and a blanket to cuddle under. He is going to be fostered and hopefully make a full recovery.

Lazy Bones gave birth! Yep, that's the surprise, Lazy Bones, the cat that didn't feel pregnant, gave birth the next day. Shocking to all of us, I found myself holding a kitten still in its sack and telling the staff while trying to keep it warm and breathing.

We thought she would stop at 3, but the next day we learned she had 6 in total, but lost three of them. The first one we found died from being too weak, likely from malnutrition in the mother cat and being left in the sac too long, but she is being a good mother to the three she has. So much for being called "Lazy Bones" she was one good momma cat.  : )

I am now a midwife to a cat I guess. Here is the first kitten we found, while it was still alive. I removed the sac from its face, rinsed it with warm water to get it warm, clean, and stimulated, then began to rub its side and face and hold it upside-down to drain its lungs. We did all we could for it.

Lazy Bones licking clean her second kitten. She was keeping it pretty warm curled up around it, but seemed disturbed at having to try to eat the placentas, so we removed them for her.

The second or third kitten, I don't remember which. This little guy is obviously stronger then the first but was still far thinner then the kittens our momma cat had. It has a lovely smokey color to it.

Her is the proud momma, cleaning and nursing her kittens.

Day two she has three healthy kittens, a litter box, a larger crate, and food and water. The kittens have issues with crawling through the bars and the momma seems not as interested in the black kitten, but with vigilance they can all make it to be healthy adoptables.

Here is a better look at the kittens. Two cloudy colored kittens with dark points and a darker kitten that is almost black.

So precious the miracle of life. And so amazing how caring the mothers are.  : )

Wow, that's a surprise! Poor Lazy Bones, she must have been so skinny if you couldn't tell that she was pregnant that close to giving birth. I hope everything goes well with the mother and her three remaining babies.

Thanks.
Fred NEVER sits still for a picture. He is far too sweet and playful to pose for a lame old camera.  : )

Kitten pile-up! This is Marsh Mellow, Bolt and Blossom, three of the six kittens that were brought in yesterday. They are doing well, and so are their two sisters. I'm not sure how their sick brother is doing, he is still in foster.

The two sisters. I'm not sure what their names our yet.

Sweet little Domino wasn't feeling so well and got brought back from the pet store for some R and R before being put back up for adoption.

Look at those eyes! Walinda is so beautiful in such a mysterious way.

Fencer, Ebony, Rowan, Newton, Ash, Walinda, Lazy Bones (plus three), the five new kittens, Domino and Fred are still in quarantine while Moo, Mr. Cool and a number of kittens are in foster and Rupert is back up for adoption. Rags, Aida, Peggy, London, Memo, and Shrimpi are also up for adoption, while Ajax, Nutmeg, Vader, Sirius and Zeke are at the petstore.

Huey apparently wasn't returned to his owner but was adopted, as it states on the July adoption list. However, I hadn't seen him on the chart. Also not on the chart are Mumsy, Nash, Weasley and Mac, so they are possibly adopted too.

And yes, I did have to rewrite some of this because one of my foster kittens, Trouble, deleted it while crawling on my laptop.  : )

Caution: Some of these kittens might be so cute you feel forced to give them cuddles and kisses. You've been warned.

They may be a little shy, but I think their habit of sitting on each other is the cutest part of it. Marsh Mellow, Blossom and Bolt.

Here they are again, proving my point. They were in their litter box for the time being, but I gave them a cozy blanket after this picture and they went for it instead.

Batgirl and Bubbles are somewhat more interactive then the trio above, but they enjoyed having a cuddly blanket too. And boy do they have worms. Just glad they are getting the medication they need, as they are so round and their stomachs so huge you'd think they would burst.

The little sick sibling of the 6 kittens, this is Benny, feeling much better with the meds and food he needed.

One of the girls enjoying a neck rub.

And a chin rub too.  : )

Mr. Cool is in foster

Rags, Naomi, Aida, Sirius, Zeke, Vader, Memo, Rupert, Shrimpi, London, Peggy, Nutmeg and Ajax remain up for adoption. Lazy Bones (I'm calling her Lyla since it fits better) is taking wonderful care of her trio of babies, Ginseng remains in boarding. Fencer, Ebony, Rowan, Newton, Ash, Walinda, Fred, Domino and the six new kittens remain in quarantine for now as they get over whatever sickness they may be struggling with.

Monday's and Tuesdays the shelter is closed, so today I get to see if any more were adopted that I didn't know about. Or if there are any new ones.

An update at the cats currently at our Humane Society. By the way, Rupert finally got adopted!!! Yay!!! I'm pretty sure Sirius, Ajax, Vader and Zeke got adopted as well.

However, not to dampen that, but sweet little Benny ended up passing away from his illness. Hopefully his five siblings will get better soon.

This here is Pearl and Paws. Pearl is the girl and was recently spayed while Paws is the dude and has a sore nose and eyes. However, both are incredibly sweet and once they are fully vetted can be put up for adoption in the now almost empty cat room! There are only three cats in there right now and two at the Petstore that works with the shelter.

Here is a better picture of Paws, showing his bad eye. He is a total sweety, just missed his sister. Because there wouldn't be enough room in one kennel they had to be split up, but we put them back together for a time to help him calm down and he is doing better and much more relaxed now.

Domino chilling. He wasn't feeling too well, but hopefully is doing alright in a foster home. I didn't seem him on the cart, which makes me worry we might have lost him. So many sick kittens get brought in, it just breaks my heart.

Rowan is spayed and almost ready to be adopted, just waiting until her eye clears up and she is ready to go.

Rupert in his own private corner of the cat-room. I hope he is having a wonderful new time in his new home.

Memo saying high.

Memo and Peggy at the cat-room door.

One of Lyla's kittens. I am fostering her and the three of them. I'm pretty sure this one is Ozzie. He is Eight days old and his eyes are beginning to open.

Nocturne, Ozzie and Twilight, Lyla's three babies.

Lyla enjoying some pettins'. She has fleas but is going to be treated for it. However, she enjoys her daily combing and I have wiped her with damp cloth to help her clean herself since she came to us very smelly and greasy.

Fred, another of our foster kittens, pigging out on some food. He is 8 weeks old but too small to be neutered so we are keeping him until he weighs enough to be able to find a new home!! He's such a sweet and lively little guy, eager to be with you at all times. He moves around like he's on a double-dose of caffine.

Minion, still not feeling the greatest after being neutered. He is only a year-old and will hopefully be able to be put up for adoption soon.

Naomi saying hello. She is still waiting to be picked up by her new family and is a little bored, but I'm sure it will be worth it when she gets her forever home.

Walinda saying hello. She has such incredible eyes, this one.  : )

Nutmeg came back from the petstore and seems to be having a little bit of issues with runny droppings, but otherwise is sweet and eager to be put back up for adoption.

Bubbles and Batgirl, not feeling too well but fighting through their cold together.

Rowan again, she likes to be the center of attention this one.

Prissie. A sweet tortie girl, just very fearful of new people. She hid today and we had to go on a search to find her. However, I'm sure she'll make someone a wonderful cat once she settles down.

Peggy, the most out-going girl out there, she is the opposite of Prissie in that she just wants to play all the time.

Memo resting near the window on one of their cat trees.

Paws enjoying getting a head rub while I cleaned up the spilled water in his cage. He adores being given attention, this one.

A new cat, yet to be named, this girl came in with a collar and bell and will hopefully be claimed by an owner and returned home. She is friendly and healthy, so I'm sure someone cares for her.

Tesla, showing how he got his name with that crazy hair of his. He's a tiny guy, but healthier then a lot of our kittens have been in the past. And look at those huge paws and ears!! I just love this dude, and he is so sweet and friendly.

Tesla on the washer, enjoying getting petted. I hope to foster him once he is given a check-up by the vet. He'd be a perfect new foster cat to replace Fred once Fred is ready for adoption.

Mumsy came back from the Petstore and is in the Cat Room, eager to find a new family. Her sons, Ash and Ebony, are still with us as well.

Rambo, Bee, Kai, Trouble, Cash, Ollie, Ozzie, Nocturne, Twilight, Lyla, Fred and Mr. Cool are all in foster homes currently. We are considering fostering Walinda, the five calico cats (actually, the brother is black and white), Ash and Newton, Nutmeg, or Tesla after Fred gets returned to find a forever-home.

Fencer, Aida, Rags, and Ginseng are also still with us. Shrimpi and London have gone to Petsmart for their chance at getting a new home. At the moment we have something around 35 dogs, 37 cats, and 1 ferret (Bubba).

However, just today two dogs found new forever-homes and as mentioned, Rupert found his own family as well. That is why we do what we do, to give these guys and gals a chance to have a happily-ever-after.

Do you ever get updates from the new families who adopt the kittens you foster? It would be so nice to hear how they're doing in their new homes.

Tesla is so sweet! I bet someone is going to fall in love with him and take him home soon.

Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. None of my foster kittens have been put up for adoption yet, but I sure hope they all get awesome homes.  : )

Today was a rough day. I've got poison ivy all over my face and hands and had to go to the doctors. We decided it was best I didn't work at the shelter today so I just stopped by to pick up some food for the cats at home.

Fred is back at the shelter, struggling with respiratory issues. He is 2 lbs but he isn't healthy enough to be fixed yet. We took home little, sweet Tesla (who is a girl) and she is settling in quite well.

At the shelter we've got a good number of cats, particularly because the cats are neutered/spayed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Domino, Bolt, Marsh Mellow, Batgirl, Bubbles, Blossom, Pearl, Paws, Fred, Newton, Prissie, and Fencer remain in quarantine. Ginseng is still being boarded. We've got a new cat that I'm not sure her story or name yet (I'm not even sure if its a "her" yet).

Nutmeg is back up for adoption, along with Ebony and Ash, Rowan, Rags, Mumsy, Minion, Peggy, London, Rambo, Shrimpi, and Aida.

Mr. Cool, Ollie, Trouble, Kai, Cash, Bee, Ozzie, Nocturne, Twilight, Lyla, Steve and Tesla.

I'm not sure if Princess got returned to her family or not, there were a number of changes in where the cats were kept while people were letting the fixed cats recover from surgery.

I'll most pictures in a little while.  : )

Rowan, Rambo, Nutmeg, Ebony and Ash are all up for adoption. Naomi got taken to her forever-home!! Yay!!

The five foster dudes and gal got their first vaccinations and second deworming. It went well for them, though Fred didn't enjoy his shots so much. He must have known what was happening from previous experience, the clever boy.

Isolation is the best prevention for young cats. Fred is struggling (for weeks now) with respiratory issues because of the herpes virus. While 99% of the cats at the shelter have it, kittens don't have to keep being introduced over and over. If you have foster kittens or work with shelter cats/kittens then wash your hands between individuals unless they are being housed together. It can prevent a lot of heart-ache. Dusky passed away though he was perfectly healthy because he caught the virus from other sick cats. It can be hard to prevent in a single building, but it doesn't mean you can't take steps. Don't clean multiple litter boxes together, don't switch around food or water dishes without cleaning them, no matter how little you use a sponge or towel in an enclosure, get it washed before using it for another enclosure. Don't share toys, food, uneaten treats, brushes, bedding, ect between cats or cages. Don't use the same carrier (unwashes) to move or hold cats in. Avoid letting the cats exercise in the same area unless they are obviously healthy (sneezing, runny eyes or nose, ect are the easiest ways for cats to leave behind disease to be picked up by other cats).

Change clothes if you cuddle cats or let them rub against you or sit on your lap. If you simply lift them or stroke them then hands are all that need washed.

Don't track used shoes from one room to another if you could possibly have stepped on anything that could spread pathogens (particularly mucus, droppings, urine, or other byproducts of the cat).

Not only with this help keep the cats healthy, but it can help keep you healthier as well, since any zoonotic diseases (diseases that can spread from cats to man, such as ringworm) are less likely to be passed on.

Update picture time!!

Twilight and Nocturne out from behind their mattress to use the bathroom. This happens every 2-6 hours, depending on whether it is night or not. It is nice not to have to worry about bottle feeding, with their mother there, but still don't think she is stimulating them at all, so I'm going to continue to do this whether she is doing it some or not.

They are gaining weight very well (having gone from just 5 or so ounces to around 180-190 grams each!). Twilight is the smallest of the bunch but growing, feeding well, and lively. He is finally getting clean, though he still has some dead skin on his belly and back legs from the matted fur. I just don't want to hurt is tender skin by rubbing it too much.

Bee and Ollie, chilling by their box (a side-ways dresser). Oliver and Kai can both jump out of it now so I mainly use it at night, when they know they are suppose to be sleeping. Bee and Ollie both have eating from the dish down, but I don't know if they are drinking water, so milk is sometimes put into the dish to make sure they are hydrated.

Cash, a momma's-boy, he is showing off his sweet side more lately and even grooming his sister when they are cuddled together. What a nice guy.  : )

Rambo is neutered and up for adoption! Yay for him! A handsome cream tabby kitten, he is lively, playful, and rambunctious, doing so much better then when he same in small and sick a month or so ago.

Tesla is our new foster kitten. Fred is back at the shelter, hopefully getting over his respiratory issues. He is 2 lbs, enough to be neutered, but not healthy enough for the surgery yet. He is eating well, however.

Tessie is a sweetie, she surprises easily, likely from being raised mostly outside by her mother, but she is trusting and cuddly otherwise. I love the tiny white tip to her tail. It is hard to see here, but it is so cute!!

Kai and Trouble. The two are doing well, but vastly different in personality. Kai is the bigger, more independent boy who seems more concentrated on a single toy at times and will eat from the dish. Trouble is the booger who wants to continue nursing from a bottle, practically refusing his dish unless he is starving. He was getting constipation from dehydration actually he was being so stubborn!!

However, they are very healthy without any respiratory, weight, or parasite problems, so there isn't much to complain about besides them being too spoiled.  : )

Because of issues with poison ivy I haven't gone to the shelter in a couple days. I'll update on how things are going tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have had some adoptions while I was gone. I'll bet Rambo will already be in his new home.  : )

Update time.  : )

First off, congrats to the awesome kitty, London, for getting adopted. Ash has also been adopted and is simply being held at the shelter until he is taken home.

Still awaiting their chance to get out of quarantine (they're struggling with respiratory issues from their rough kitten-hood), the calico siblings are incredibly sweet and have grown to at least twice their size when they first came in.

Batgirl and Bubbles together, cuddling up on their blankie.  : )

Domino is also recovering from his respiratory issues, but is getting special care and nightly fostering. He also gets plenty of cuddle toys with him too.  : )

Osta, a new cat that came in badly injured. I sure hope he/she makes it through this hard time. Medicine, rest, and TLC will certainly help his recovery, but they put a lot of effort into their healing as well. Those cats sure are tough little guys and can fight off bad injuries incredibly well. Keep up the fighting buddy.

Walinda looking cute. She was spayed and is almost ready for adoption!!! You go girl!

Newton continues to recover in a warm, safe environment as he gets ready to be put up for adoption.

Bolt and Marsh Mellow, I'm pretty sure. Those girls can be hard to tell apart!

I'm pretty sure this is Batgirl, but again, I'd have to check to see what markings go with which names.

Fencer, looking regal even in his old age.

Paws is struggling with health issues but is getting TLC and a clean, comfortable place to rest while he recovers.

Shrimpi is back from the pet store where London was adopted and is enjoying chilling in her favorite cat beds again.

Mumsy enjoying the view out the window as she waits for adoption.

Peggy saying hello.

Aida is still waiting her turn for a forever home. She gets run of the conference room much of the time, so she's really a spoiled girl. It would be nice if she could be spoiled in her own, personal home though, where she gets all the one-on-one she could want.

Ash and Ebony.

Rowan, Rio, Brazil, Minion and Prissie get their chance at Petsmart to be adopted. Good luck guys!!!

Rags, Rambo, Cougar (a new cat with only half of his right front leg, but a real sweetie), Fred, and others are still at the shelter as well. I'll try to update more later.

Your thread always makes me smile.

They're all adorable, but it's the cats like Paws, Fencer and Osta that really get to me. Those are the ones I'd take home.

So the official cat count right now is this:::

Mumsy, Peggy and Shrimpi in the cat room; Aida, Rags, Ash and Rambo in the lobby; Rowan, Rio, Brazil, Minion and Prissie at Petsmart; Fred, Domino, Cougar, Nutmeg, Newton, Ebony, Fencer, Paws and his sister Pearl, Blossom, Batgirl, Bubbles, Bolt, Marsh Mellow, Walinda, Osta, and the tabby female (yet to be named) in boarding. In foster homes are Oliver, Kai, Trouble, bee, Cash, Lyla, Nocturne, Twilight, Ozzie, Tesla, Mr. Cool, sometimes Domino (he gets taken home in the evenings), possibly Steve (I would think he would be old enough to be adopted, but I'll have to ask about him), and the new little guy, Banjo. Banjo is only around 1 week old and was brought in by someone who claimed he was alone. Likely his mother was out hunting, but it is too late to return him now so he will be in foster care for the next 7 weeks as he works on becoming a strong, friendly, handsome dude.

My five kittens are now 8 weeks old and will likely be going to the shelter to be neutered/spayed in the next week. Tesla is only around 5-7 weeks of age and will probably be with us for a couple weeks as she works on gaining weight and getting use to a household environment. Lyla and her kittens mad WONDERFUL progress, Twilight actually finished shedding all the matted fur from his body today and is clean and lively, but they're only around 3 weeks of age and will be with us for at least another 3, most likely 5, weeks.

I'm hoping that once the basement room is cleaned up (we painted it and scrubbed it a few months ago but then we kept a few sick cats down there) then I can foster the calico five for a week or two. They're just so sweet and I want a chance for them to experience an in-home environment as well as get cuddles, meet dogs, other people, and practice their running, jumping, climbing and playing.  : )

A lot of kittens are finding wonderful new, forever homes at the shelter.

Bee by the litter box.

Lyla's three kittens. They are now 3 weeks of age and starting to try to walk.  : )

Tesla. She grew so much and is now the size of the five!

Cash, showing off his swirls.

Lyla, saying hello.

Blossom after getting her eyes cleaned. She is doing better and is almost ready for adoption. Two of her sisters got adopted as well!

Bubbles, Blossom's sister. Batgirl got adopted.

Oliver, Bee and I believe Kai, sitting on a chair together.

The six eating from their dishes.

Oliver, a handsome little tiger.

One of Lyla's kittens (either Twilight or Ozzie).

Steve is much larger and still has his flat little face too!

Blossom and Bubbles are the only two of the five not up for adoption yet as they get over any sickness they may have had and are spayed.

Ebony, sweet and getting so big!

Paws and Pearl. Paws is still getting over his respiratory issues, but he is so sweet and happy to be with his sister that his recovery should be pretty fast.

One of the three new little girls. Their names are Beatrix, Genny and Hermoine (yep, Harry Potter).  : )

Shrimpi saying hello from the cat room.

Pugsly is up for adoption.

Nocturne being adorable. Look at that little white spot on his chest!

Tesla not so sure what to think about her new sister, Bee. The two will be staying together when the boys are ready for adoption, as they are too small to be spayed yet.

In foster are Moo, Ollie, Kai, Trouble, Bee, Cash, Tesla, Banjo, Spoons, Hermoine, Genny, Beatrix, Lyla, Nocturne, Twilight, Ozzie, and Mr. Cool.

Prissie, Peggy and Shrimpi are in the cat room. In quarantine are Ebony, Fencer, Bubbles, Blossom, Nutmeg, Fred, Steve, Cougar, Paws and Pearl. Ginseng is still in boarding.

Rowan, Minion, Draco, Marsh Mellow, Muffin, Bisquit and Crumpet are at Petsmart while Aida, Rags, Walinda, Rambo and Newton are in the lobby awaiting their turn for a forever home!!

Brazil, Rio, Bolt, Batgirl, Mumsy, and London have all been adopted and I believe Prissie and Rowan may have also been adopted.

I will be helping to foster Banjo and Spoons for a few days, possibly trying to introduce them to Lyla since they are a similar age to her kittens. I guess we'll wait and see, I don't want there to be any issues between them.

Genny, Beatrix and Hermoine may also be coming to our house for a few weeks after Ollie, Cash and Kai go to get neutered and put up for adoption.

I'll keep you all updated.  : )

Lovely pictures. It's so nice to see them all growing up. Little Bee is just adorable.

Is Blossom a good girl when you clean her eyes? One of my rescues is FIV+ and has herpes. I have a solution to clean her eyes with and drops for whenever she has a flare-up, but it's a daily battle to keep her eyes clean. I used to be able to "Burrito" her, but she knows what it means when she sees me coming with a towel now. She doesn't have any teeth, but she has claws and she's not afraid to use them!

I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that she is going to have permanent tear stains. Any tips for cleaning cat's eyes?
