The cats at the shelter are continuing to do well, even though we are getting many drop-offs (including dogs, since a near-by shelter closed down and we agreed to take their strays). Nearly all our dog kennels are full but actually most of our Cat Quarantine cages are empty and the cats are either at the pet-store we work with or in the cat room. The few not there are either in the Lobby because they don't get along with other cats or else too young or ill to be put up for adoption.
Fred remains in the quarantine of the Surgery room while he gets over the very heavy coccidia load he was treated for. He is lively, playful with large, bright eyes and a good appetite.
Domino and Mac made such a great recovery they are now up for adoption at the pet-store, even though just a few days ago Domino could barely stand.
Ebony remains in quarantine, Dusky is sick and getting intensive care. Their mother, Mumsy, is at Petsmart waiting her turn for a forever home. She is small and very friendly and caring so I'm sure she'll go quickly.
Moo, the over-weight black and white female cat that came in a few months ago, remains in foster as she works towards getting better.
Naomi is adoption pending at the shelter while Nutmeg, her sister, is at the pet-store. Aida and Rags are in the lobby waiting their turn while Rupert is in the back being assisted in fighting off a cold he got.
Ginsang remains in boarding but seems to have calmed down some since she first arrived, not as grouchy as she was in the past.
In the cat room we've got Memo, Shrimpi, London, Thompson, Bailey and Peggy. In the ISO (cat isolation room) we've got Fencer, Rowan, Newton, Ash, and Walinda. Walinda is a fearful stray kitten who came in from Wal-mart (hints the name) and Rowan is also a new stray girl, blue in color with gorgeous large eyes. She is around the same age and size as Walinda and hopefully they can be put together when deemed healthy to help calm down the semi-frantic Wali.
At Petsmart we've got Nash, Ajax, Weasley, Domino, Nutmeg, Vader (who apparently wasn't adopted), Sirius, Zeke, Mac and Mumsy.
Huey, a new cat that was dropped off as a neutered adult, friendly and of good weight and health with front claws removed, either got returned to his owner or put up for adoption right away because he wasn't in quarantine yesterday when I was at the shelter.
Adele, a calico female who apparently came in yesterday, had a microchip and was returned safely to her owner. YAY!!!! The staff at the shelter said this is very rare and usually no one comes in to claim the cats.
Anyways, on to the photos:
Fred, showing off his healthy eyes and playful personality. The picture quality might not be great, but he is actually a healthy dude, he just won't sit still well. : )
Dusky and Ebony on quarantine after getting sick. Ebony is the healthier of the two but Dusky has to go home and be fostered each evening to watch him for signs of getting worse.
My foster kittens on their first vet-check trip to the shelter. They got their wormers and weighed but were deemed otherwise very healthy and not needing another check-up for a few weeks when vaccinations will be given.
Huey when he first came in. He wasn't so sure about the place at first, but was more nervous then frightened, obviously he was use to humans.
Rupert is sick and in quarantine right now but hopefully with some TLC he'll get better and be put back-up for adoption. The poor shy, sweet guy needs a home. He's been with us forever.
Memo looking out at the picturesque world.
Thompson meandering.
Bailey excited for a visitor stretches as she rubs up against the railing on the giant cat tree, asking for some attention.
Little Domino, feeling much better and investigating his surroundings.
Mac, playing with Domino's tail.
Rowan, uncertain about her situation.
She didn't like me reaching into her cage but doesn't seem to be feral, just shy and not well accustomed to strangers.
Domino and Mac chilling together in their litter box. I got them a blanket to cuddle up on so they wouldn't have to do that, but sometimes they just choose the litter box because they like it better then any bed you could give them. That's a cat for you. We actually give Rupert two litter boxes so he can sleep in one and toilet in the other.
The new kitten, Walinda. I had to move her with a towel so she wouldn't scratch or bite me, but she seems willing to greet people she knows, she just doesn't like strangers. And wow, her voice when she meows is deeper then a tom-cats! She sounds like a person calling for help, its kind of frightening to hear that echo around the shelter while you're trying to do work.
I'll keep you all updated on their progress. Have a good day! : )
Oh, and consider adopting a cat too. ; )
