Can you guide the kitten to a nipple? The sooner they nurse the better. If not latching, they need supplementing with a syringe. Most kittens latch on very quickly from instinct. Is there a problem? Do you have KMR?

the two newbies are unable to find a teet. i dont have KMR but am going to have to go into town early morning to get some. they seem to be quiet for now, one has fed like a monster (2nd born) first born fed straight away but number 3 and 4 are finding it hard. i have tried guiding them to the nipple but 3 struggles away and 4 the same,

Continue trying to put them to a nipple. Hopefully, they will latch soon. If not, you can give 1 mL of honey water with a syringe for energy. Tummy down, head up, side of mouth, one drop at a time. Kitten needs to swallow, breathe, and go again.

Do you have a can of condensed milk? An egg? Mayonnaise? If so, a homemade glop can be made to use for tonight, if the honey or sugar water does not lead to enough energy for latching. Let me know! They must eat!

Have you tried gently squeezing mom's nipple so there is a bit of milk smell to it, then putting a kitten on?

There is no way to know until he is done.  As the kitten suckles it encourages milk production in that nipple.  So, let him suckle away.  When he is full he will fall asleep.  Moms with smaller litters usually have a nipple or two dry up and only produce on the nipples being used.

Moms have colostrum initially. The suckling brings on the milk in a day or so, but colostrum is very rich and good for the kittens. Now you have one baby who has not latched. Do you have an eye dropper to use if necessary?

Yes, if you could get up at least once in the night to make sure all the kittens are together it would be good.  There's been a few kittens who wandered too far from mom and died.  Got too cold to eat and their little bodies shut down.  It takes new moms a day or two to settle into motherhood.

Oh, so they've all latched now? You'll still want to get the KMR tomorrow. You have to be prepared for everything!

it looks like they are all latched. Two kittens look lovely and dry and the other two look damp. They aren't but they look it. They're not cold, they feel quite warm (all of them). Mama is very loving. Baby 2 is massive and nestled under mums chin.

Okay. You'll need to keep an eye on the smaller kittens for now. I thought you said you were getting supplies a couple of days ago. It's always the runts who can turn on a dime. Best to be prepared. Sounds like they are okay for now. Can you weigh them tomorrow? That's the only way to know if they are thriving. They need to gain 6-10 grams each per day.

I've been unwel. I have kidney disease so I tire very easily when unwell. How often do I syringe feed?

Where are our pictures?  No going to bed until we have a picture!
ill get pictures up when they have fed and mama has eaten. She is a dark tortie and she has an all black kitten, one black and white kitten (she/he is big!) and two more torties (I think) they are they same size as the black one, its just the white one that looks bigger. I'm going to weigh them when mama leaves her box to eat

If you need to syringe, with newborns, it's 1-2 mL's every 1-2 hours. I'm sorry you've been unwell. With 4, mom cat should be able to feed all of them well once everyone gets established. But giving mom a dish of KMR a day is good. She'll need the calcium. Provided you don't need to supplement, kittens will drink it too when weaning. Powdered KMR is best. [emoji]128522[/emoji]
