My little ones have been gaining 15-20g a day as well. It's amazing seeing how big they've gotten in a few days time. I'm happy to hear Bear had a good gain, but he still really needs to be watched. Sorry about the fleas, hope that is taken care of quickly.

I have aone frontline spray from when Mexico was pregnant and it can be used from 3 days so ill be doing that tomorrow night. It does have a strong odour so will Mexico not want to be near them?

That makes me nervous.  Please ask your vet first.

Hmmm. I wouldn't put any flea meds on the babies. I'd just treat mom. And I'm not sure how I feel about a topical treatment. Can you call your vet and see what they recommend?

Do you think wrapping sticky tape around my hand and dabbing it on the the place where the eggs and flea dirt is will help sort THAT part of the problem? Taking Mexico to the vets in the afternoon to get her flea sprayed. There is nothing topical I can put on her, flea-wise.

Why do you say that? If so, you will need to act very quickly.
all of a sudden, she doesn't seem bothered with them. They are asleep right now, going to see if she goes to them when they cry...she laying on the floor about a foot away out of her nest

That's not an issue at all. Most moms do take a bit of time when the kittens are sleeping.

how long do I wait until intervening? Shall I not go near them until they cry and see what happens? If she ignores them do I assume she HAS rejected them and start feeding every two hours?

She has likely NOT rejected them. Moms frequently take breaks out of the nest, but will get back in the nest when it's feeding time. Let us know what she does when they start mewing for food.

I handled them a few times today and she doesn't mind ny doing that buy I had to change the blanket. Since I changed the blanket she hasn't been in...

Have the kittens been sleeping? How long has she been laying nearby? Are they in distress?

For the first 2 days every time I moved away from the nest, Lizzy got up. She just wanted to be on my lap lol. She's a better mom to them when I give her space. She gets up fairly often but she always goes back. Most cats do not reject their litter. Hopefully she just needed a break.

they have been asleep for almost an hour. She's back in the nest, one of them had a bit of a whine and she gave a little meow back. Anyway, she's back in the nest and I'm going to have a night up with them, not go near the nest...oh, they are feeding. Hubby just told me. I wont go near again tonight but ill check again in two hours to see if they are feeding and every two hours...never felt so anxious. When you have children (human babies), you don't feel AS anxious because YOU are holding them and feeding them and you know that they are getting what they need. When kittens come along with mama cat, there's nothing really you can do to help as you're too scared to hurt them, hurt mama cat, or make something bad happen LIKE mama cat rejecting them. I don't want to hold them again for a bit.

Shall I skip weighing them for a few days?

You can keep fleas under control by using a flea comb and some soapy water.  Jusst flick any fleas you catch into the soapy water.  Change the bedding totally every day an comb the mom and babies and that should do fine for awhile.  Advantage II is fine on the mother but not on the kittens as the mother will wash it off and then it will go inside her, which is not good. If you can get food grade Diotomaceous Earth (available at farm supply stores) you can use that om mom and even babies since it will not hurt mom if she ingests it.

I think you should continue weighing, especially if you think mom isn't attentive enough. You do not want to find out there's a problem when it's already advanced.

what do I do with the Diatomaceous earth? The sticky tape thing worked on the bedding like a dream. I'll comb Mexico and the kittens in the morning...and weigh them at the same time. Could ibkeep mama out of the room for ten minutes or would she get distressed and scratch at the door, thinking I was hurting them?

If you open the door and she leaves then you might be able, otherwise she may panic.

Talkingpeanut is right, continue to weigh them each day.
