Hi all. Our little 7yr old "Heinz 57" black cat, InkyDink, was just diagnosed with small cell, multicentric Lymphoma 3 weeks ago. It started in the beginning of March when she started hiding and crouching when sitting (very unusual for a very social and loving baby). We took her to the ER at 2am one night and they said it was pancreatitis. Long story short, after treating this very painful condition for 3 weeks, the SNAP test revealed no more Pancreatitis, however she was still not doing much better.
We sought out a board certified internist, a:kitty2:nd he said we had to decide now on exacting the diagnosis. So we opted for the exploratory biopsies, so we could begin a more effective treatment. 5 days later we recieved that dreadful call, with the Dr telling us they found small cell Lymphoma. However it was not typical. He described it as "multicentric small cell lymphoma" - it was not typical, because where the lymphoma was "supposed to be" (i.e.:intestines) it was not, rather it was in her lymph nodes. He consulted with 2 different oncologists, and they decided 2 mg. Chlorambucil (3 x wk) with 5 mg. Prednisone (1 daily) and 1/2 cyproheptidine (1 x day), and B12 shot weekly.
The first week went ok, Inky was really knocked on her butt the day after chemo... But when we went for her weekly CBC last Monday, her white cell count was really low, so we had to skip a week of the chemo. This past Monday, her CBC went back to normal, and we resumed chemo, but now only 2 x week. Again, she is knocked on her butt.
I can't believe this is all happening!! She was normal right up until this onset of pancreatitis. [emoji]128560[/emoji][emoji]128560[/emoji][emoji]128560[/emoji] Inky is that "once in a lifetime" extra special baby to us. We have 2 other kitties, but somehow Inky endeared herself to us in such a crazy-special way since she was a baby.... She's been the most affectionate, loving, playful, cuddly kitty we've ever had. (And I've had cat fur babies all my life).
Watching her post-chemo is awful awful awful.
We've done soooooo much research online, and I found this site, and was really impressed by so many of the threads, that I decided it was the right one for me. I tried the Yahoo group, but I found it next to impossible to navigate, (the way it is set up)...
So back to Inky, -we bought the Life Gold supplement, but she has only been on it for a few days. We have purchased every novel, organic, high-protein, no grain foods known to man (only the ones made in the USA), as she refused the venison/pea diet... She is eating, and the cyprohep is amazing. She currently weighs 11.5 lbs, as we are determined to maintain this weight on her so she can fight this beast.
In my heart I have little rest, as this roller coaster of good days, (good hours), vs. bad days is heart wrenching. The internist can only offer, "cancer does what cancer wants to do, and it can go into remission, but it can certainly take her too." The latter scares me so badly (as I sit and cry while writing this..)
Has anyone been through this with a cat of a similar age, and if so, can you offer me any light at the end of this dark tunnel? I want to believe there IS something we can do besides just giving ALL of ourselves to her needs 24/7 with hopeful and loving hearts... Does anyone here have success stories???
The Dr told me there were no large cells found in any of the biopsies. The oddest thing was that where the cancer "should have been, it was not" ........
Help, please.... Anything you all can offer is most welcome. tia
